Thread for Women Only

Women only. Stay out, men! Starting… now. :-"

So, I’m liking the Twins chances this year against the Yankees - love that we have home field advantage and finally have a beautiful field to boot.

[HA! And JT can’t even whisper the Vikings’ name here - woohoo, Kris, I think I’m on the verge of becoming a believer. ]

Why do you care if someone mentions the Vikings? Don’t they play football and not baseball like the Twins? My baby brother and godson is a big Vikings fan. That was his essential pre-teen rebellion when we went to the Superbowl one year when the Vikings were playing the Dolphins and he was wearing that purple and gold knit hat. None of us really cared that much since the Cowboys weren’t in it.

Of course, any team that beats the Yankees is aces in my book. Go Twins! I’d prefer it to be the Astros or the Rangers of course. I don’t know if they suck this year or not, but they’re in Texas, so what the hell. I don’t know if we have a soccer team or not, but I became a big soccer fan during this year’s World Cup. That final was a nailbiter, but my team Spain finally won. That was pretty kewl!

Hi jonquil,
I love sports, but mostly my post was in response to xzc’s humorous inaugural post in the Men’s thread - kind of making fun of the stereotypes. As for the Vikings comment, JT and I have a history around that - I want desperately to be a Vikings fan, but if you know anything about them, you’ll know they let us down every single year. JT never misses a chance to remind me of that. So here, I can say whatever I want and he can’t harass me about it! :evilfun:

BTW Texas is in the playoffs too, I think they play Tampa Bay. We Twins fans are rooting for Texas, because if we both make it out of the first round, we’d again have home field advantage against TX.

So, Go Twins - Go Rangers!

Lol. Sounds like you would get a good deal there. I think I’ll watch some of it since Texas has a team in that series.

Who’s JT? I’m sorry the Vikings suck. Maybe the Cowboys will take up the slack. (I have no idea what I’m talking about here, but it sounds good.) You do have a beautiful home field. My friend in Arlington hates the big new stadium they built there. That money could have had such a better use… but that’s sports n politics for ya.

By the way, have you read the men’s thread yet? I don’t think they really know how to have a conservation. So far it’s just a lot of dick flailing and manhood stuff, which they already do everywhere else. Can’t say I’m a bit surprised.

Oh, do not get me started on using public funds to build stadiums - I think it’s outrageous. And I could really go off on sports scholarships vs. academic scholarships at the collegiate level, but we’ll save that for another discussion.

Anyway, after years of playing here:

it IS nice to have outdoor baseball again.

Oh, and JT = tentative.

It’s kinda cold up there, though. I think ya’ll only have two seasons, summer and 4th of July. Brrr.

And the way public money is being spent on stadiums really is outrageous, particularly here in red state crazee Texas where kids go without healthcare and the leg makes it so hard for people to even get food stamps… but Guv Goodhair spends millions on trips to Italy and staying in a 10,000/month house while the mansion is being redone. And Lloyd Doggett, one of the good guys, had to put a special condition on federal education funds so that the money could only be spent on education, so Guv Perry turned it down. Only in Texas, I sometimes say.

Thanks, I didn’t realize ya’ll were duking it out over sports teams. That’s kind of cute and funny.

I can see public funding for stadiums if the stadium is produces an adequate amount of job openings and a good tax base that would pay off the funds within a reasonable amount of years. Its really no different then the bailouts. Or Fema investing in an area that has been damaged by disasters. If the money helps the economy in the long run then I am for it. If almost zero goes back into the local economy then it is wrong. Now I don’t have statistics to prove one way or the other but it seems to me that the average leaders would not just hand out money with out getting something in return far more than just good seats.

Now if they could just make clothes washers that won’t die, life would be peachy. Mine just kicked the bucket. You would think that with all the intelligent people out there that need clean clothes they would produce at least one viable good machine that never needed replacing. I guess I could resort to Grandma’s old washer that sits on my porch but daaaaamn thats hard work  It still runs and it was made in the early 20s

Except that here’s the deal, Kris: the Twins are owned by the Pohlad family, approximate net worth - $3.6 billion, that’s billion with a B. Target Field cost about $380 million to build, of which the Twins are paying roughly a third; the rest is being picked up by the taxpayer. Now, does the taxpayer get a cut of the revenue from ticket prices? Of course not. Does the tax payer share in the revenue generated by merchandise sales? Hell no.

There is no valid reason why a billionaire owner cannot pay for, if not the entire stadium, then at LEAST the majority of the stadium costs. Argh. :imp:

Yeah, it sucks when appliances die, doesn’t it? And it never happens at a convenient time. A few years back, my refrigerator died the day before Thanksgiving, and of course it was my year to host. @$%#@$#@@! hehe

Good luck with your search for a new washer - one of those household expenses that is never fun or cheap.

Is the tax payer paying taxes on the field or is the field being taxed at all? Somehow that family is paying taxes on that field and the taxpayers are not. So since there is no straight cut of revenue from the tickets or merchandise I would think that it comes back in the form of taxes. So what do they pay in taxes for the whole dang thing, merchandise, field tickets etc?

I am just hoping my guys can fix the darn thing. I would rather buy a part then a whole machine

You’d think they’d be paying taxes, right?

Wrong.

Verbatim from one section of the stadium bill [my bolding]:

Not only is the stadium inside one great big tax loophole, to add insult to injury, they circumvented the normal referendum process and effectively skirted around taxpayer input.

I’m sure it’s much more complex than just that little section I excerpted above, and I don’t pretend to have all of the facts, but I know enough to be justified in feeling outraged at how the taxpayer gets played in situations like this. It’s just plain wrong.

Anita,

I would be most interested to know how the money flowed b e f o r e the stadium was built, if you get my drift.

I am too tired to adress it right tonight but i think in there is a loophole for the taxpayers Anita specifically in the first part… Ok I had a few beers and the brain ain’t cooperating. but, there is something in the legalese that helps the taxpayers. give me some time.

Quick note to jonquil - The Rangers just beat Tampa Bay, two more victories to go! :happy-cheerleadersmileyguy:

[-o< The Twins play tonight - cross your fingers. [-o<

I know. My brother and I are very excited. Some people have no respect for the Rangers. He says it’s his childhood dream for the Rangers to make the series, so here’s hopin! Anyway, they’re off to a good start.

Good luck tonight. It’s time for the Yanks to go dowwwnnn.

Tell me about it:

“E-Z Pass”?! We’ll just see about that. :imp:

And congrats to the Rangers, always good to see the underdog do well!

I tell you what. Headlines like that would make me fightin mad, enough to go out and beat those suckers at their own game just for being so fucking arrogant.

p.s. – mags is really croozin over on the men’s thread. They are so hot it makes my keyboard sizzle just postin on it. lol

Amen to that. Hope the Twins can do something with it, CC Sabathia ain’t gonna be no walk in the park, that’s for sure.

Okay, new topic:
Any of you brilliant women know anything about html and/or css? I’m trying to build a page containing a little bit of text, along with two iFrames, but I’m having a helluva time getting it to work for IE7 and firefox. It works great on Opera, Safari, and firefox on my mac, but doesn’t format well at all in windows (grrr :angry-cussingblack: ). It’s been a very painful process to say the least. ](*,)

Any ideas/suggestions?

Helloooooo ladies!

I’ll be joining you lovely females for the remainder of this here experiment… as I have a serious problem being confined to a thread with only men to keep me company, and Mags was kind enough to trade places with me.
I’m hoping I’ll be welcomed with open arms and not treated as though I just walked into the ladies-room… as that tends to get ugly!

Just between you and me, MMP, all I can say is: Thank You. Oh, and Welcome.

[Now, Kris should probably have the final say, since this really is her deal, but as far as I’m concerned – “Score!”]

Also, how seriously cool is this?

Mind blowing.
