I was thinking of a new system of government and came up with some new ideas, along the lines of ‘checks & balances’.
In a Triad Republic-
No one person would have complete power. There would be 3 people who share a presidency. One from each party- Democrat, Republican, and Indipendant (or non-standard party).
Each would elect only so many members of the cabinet and all three leaders would vote for vetos and such things (2 over 1 wins).
It would in a way take the edge off of opposing parties, as they would no longer need to battle each other if one from each party is elected every election.
Also, the people would be more informed with what’s going on because they will pretty much always have a leader in power from their party, and it would be hard for an administration to have a one-sided agenda.
I was also thinking that maybe none of these leaders could be re-elected for a second term, but the length of their term could be 5 years instead of 4.
Kind of like the Roman triumvirate?
Look up triumvirate on wikipedia, it has been tried before but not exactly as you propose.
I never liked the political party system, but if we have to have it I like your triad republic better than our current. At least in your system we wouldn’t have to deal with all the partisan bickering. Also I like that the independants would get a seat, because I think people believe in a lot of them but never vote for them because they have no chance of winning in the two party system.
Would your system still have a legislative and judicial branch, if not I could see a possible problem with the concentration of power into 3 individuals, they could easily collude and turn into nothing more than a three-headed dictatorship. Also if you did have a legistlative and judical branch you’d probably have to equally split the seats among the parties or else we’d be back to the partisan fighting over the congress and judges.
It would be an edit of our (Amerikan) democratic system with only the above changes more or less. It would still have the same basic branches of government.
P.S.: I’m glad you like it. I was expecting someone to knock it down.
