You guys are arguing like you get to decide whether or not there’s a heaven or hell, and who goes where. Which in itself isn’t outrageous, 90% of religious exploration in English now amounts to “The truth is whatever makes me feel good to say”, but every now and then I hope a site called Ilovephilosophy would reach a little deeper.
I think that posters tried to look beyond either " what is apperant " or " whatever makes them good to say ". I am bit surprised that you failed to realize that.

Humans developed a complex process called consciousness and freewill (a mental illusion) because their evolution was natural, not deliberate. Their existence was fueld by the entire universe, therefore it is in harmony with the universal consciousness, not localized inertia.
Everything is either exhaustively deterministic or everything has free will.
