If you do a Google image search and type in your username (provided it is not a very common word) the images that come up will be your own avatar as well as the avatars of other people that post at your message boards.
Should this have been obvious to me before I did it?
The main problem is that the majority of usernames are not a unique enough identifier and result in such a ridiculous amount of hits that you would have to scroll through forever to find anything related to this site.
I have unwittingly solved this error for myself with the addition of three random numbers to my intended username, though I did not forsee the need for those random numbers at the time, so I will not claim that I did. However, it is for this reason that I suggest that we should all differentiate our usernames by adding some numbers, or maybe an intentional misspelling, or something.
Although it is pretty interesting the way that it is because the non-ILP related hits do give a little bit of insight into the User’s username which would not be so if the username was completely unique.
For crying out loud, I just googled myself “arcturus rising” and came up with my response to Magsj 2 days ago in word association. I don’t think I like this at all!
Is this worse than that button that reveals what we are all doing in ILP?
This leads to an even much more important question in ILP that I think I will try to find out for myself…a little investigating…
Let’s say that someone is trying to Google search, “Pepperoni Pizza,” and they accidentally type in, “Arcturus Rising,” they would be directed to this website!!!
