What are the best ways to spend your years ?

What are the best ways to spend your years before getting old so when you are old you will not regret?

From my observation on people around me, There are three options taken by them:

  1. Pursue a career, put your youthful dreams aside,be a conformist in the company, please the boss, move up in the corporate hierarchy, get married and having children, make as much money as possible…

  2. Abandon that career, escape from that professional life and travel around and just wander and wonder…

  3. Pursue your passion (helping others, making documentaries, producing music, philosophy…), although your passion could not ensure you a good career and a worldly success.

In your opinion, which option is better? Why?

How can you answer those questions without considering the personality of the person making the choice?

You might as well ask “what is the best sport?”. Some people love baseball, some people hate baseball, some are uninterested in baseball.

Pursue whatever you enjoy.

I personally collect belly button lent and put it all in ceramic jars for collection along for public display.

I like to label the jars chronologically in what years I picked the lent out of my belly button.

Can you believe I have an entire jar going back to 1998? Of course collecting belly button lent isn’t a hobby for everybody and should only be done by real belly button lent enthusiasts.

To an extent, I have done all of those. My regrets have little to do with any of those choices.

Mostly, it’s women and money. Not how much i had of either but what i did with what I have had of both.

It’s hard to tell anymore man.

I have no job or family so my raison d etre is knowledge acquisition

Those are 2 of my 3 most important things in life. Money, hos and clothes. I think it’s a good idea to hide away as much money as you can, and to always stay on good terms with girls you want to bang again.

OP’s first question~

The best way to spend your years are where years are measured by change. Eternity is another whole can of worms.

Living one lifetime is hard enough. I wouldn’t want to contemplate living an eternity of it.

Don’t you have any boundaries?

Embrace your dreams. Do so with honor as much as possible. Unless your dream is world domination or to destroy everything, then abandon them and find dreams more appropriate to pursue.

There once was someone who did that with toenail clippings.

While reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula, I read about this ‘crazy’ person that would run experiments. The experiments ran as follows:

He would have x amount of flies that he studied in-depth for a time. Then, he would obtain a bunch of spiders to eat the flies. After a time, he would get a bunch of birds that would eat the spiders, then a cat that would eat the birds, or so he would have gained if he could. The end goal was to eat the cat and thus absorb within him all of the lifeforms and energy and knowledge of the cat and thus the birds that the cat had eaten and thus the spiders that the birds had eaten, thus the flies that the spiders had eaten. He believed that this was possible and I agree that it could be possible, but that such is also possible through osmosis without actually eating the animals involved. That you can absorb/copy the life experiences of countless entities just through empathy or through psychic connection.

The troubling part is that had he been allowed to continue his experiments and found himself unsatisfied with the life experiences and knowledge of flies, spiders, birds and cats, would he then have tried dogs, etc. until he finally reached a state of cannibalism? With his induction into vampirism by Dracula, he might have skipped a few stages and missed the opportunity to take his experiments to the next level. That, and he was locked up and put under observation by trained psychologists. Even when he out reasoned them and showed himself to be sane, they kept believing him to be insane and the lapse into sanity and sense to just be a means to escape out from under observation and only that. For, he and Dracula were of a like sort and Dracula himself fed off of humans and absorbed their life experiences and knowledge through the blood transfusion. The fact that the psychologists were doing the same by studying and analyzing him, I think escaped their notice. I believe that people tend to avoid similarities like that that might trouble them and their state of ignorance. That their study material is more like them than they like causes them to put it on a lower level than them and to think better of themselves for it. At the worst, they did realize and kept him under observation anyway and were just as twisted as he.

Was Van Helsing right to rid the world of Dracula and to protect humanity, would he have thought differently if Dracula had managed to make him into a vampire? Would he have changed his position and fought for his own life at such point in such a manner that defied all previous preconceptions about his own honor and sense of right in the world? If God were to allow the existence of vampires and the turning into them, was there not a reason for it and what would have been the end result of such a experiment? An immortal being that would eventually hunt everything to extinction and be forced to starve, not to death, but for eternity until they were the last surviving specimen of a reality gone cold. That even if the world was destroyed, might have reached a point of power where they survived it and went through the depths of space to other worlds.

In Anne Rice’s vampire chronicles, vampires there were eventually able to withstand the brunt of the sun and could conceivably, at that point, rise in power to the point where they’d be able to walk about in broad daylight, though weakened somewhat, without dying; possible eventually to be able to pass through stars and suns without burning up, to pass through atmospheres to other worlds and continue their feeding, unable to be stopped. And, for the humans that judge such as wrong, is that not what we do in our misguided state of expansionism and consumption, as a species, to which we justify however we can and surely they do as well?

And how this ties into your joke about belly button lint; not lent; is simple: you have a hobby to which you must justify to yourself in some way, just the same as the rest of us, including me; you run experiments as do the rest of us whether we quantify it to ourselves or not. What then is morality; or right and wrong, except the means with which we pursue such and the reactions of others? At what point do we turn and say that something is not worth learning because of the cost and the means with which we pursue our aims? And, at such a point as someone or something else doing it anyway, such as Hitler during the Holocaust and the wealth of medical information that he gained through his horrible experiments, who are we to turn and destroy such invaluable works just because of the method they were obtained? I think the worst thing they did was to erase and destroy that information; it made all of the suffering and pain truly for nothing. Where, if they had but taken the works gained in that manner and made proper use of it, right could have been restored a lot quicker. Surely we could have learned slower and through better means, but someone had already fumbled and stumbled and bumped their heads and were discontent with the calmer pace of nature which speaks of patience. Since it could not be stopped, obviously, otherwise it would have been, why then did we make it worth absolutely nothing due to misconceived notions of honor and morality?

While there are things in existence that honor and morality do not approve of or condone and those with those things must fight against what they do not approve of or condone, to completely erase a work of merit based on how it was obtained is not honorable or moral, it is fear, it is ego, it is wrong. The suffering of all of those things should have been put to better purpose and would have been if the work had not been destroyed.

Same with Dracula and vampires. If we find them reproachful then we must find ourselves reproachful. If we can find merit in their works, no matter how dark the road, then perhaps we could find merit in our own and right ourselves. As a species, we are young, short-lived and impatient. We want results and we want them now and we often don’t care how many corners we cut to get them, which could be what destroys us. We know better ways, but we might not be able to achieve them due to the short-sightedness of our own species.

This is why I question your methodology and your hobbies and your joking and why I challenge your challenge of morality and why I oppose your claimed nihilistic viewpoints. And, for me, I find this is the best way to spend my years.

Good God! How much of your life have you wasted writing this drivel.

Fuck off.

What do you mean Harbal?

Aww, I did misspell lint. Rushed that post too fast. sighs

That’s a vast improvement, short and to the point.

Yeah, a vast improvement, sure. I said a lot of value that you tried to detract from and I told you to fuck off and you call it a vast improvement. Its a good thing I already lost all respect I had for all of you and since you don’t care and never cared to respect me in the first place and don’t care to even try to give or earn respect, fuck off again.

lol I would never drive an American car.
