What do Atheists hold Sacred?

What is your theory for?
What work does it do.
What are the characteristics of this “energy”? and is it any different from what science is decribing without the use of the word “god”?

Why would any of this theory include a concept of “sacred”?

What do they hold sacred?

Perhaps their fear and/or hesitation to take that giant leap into the darkness of uncertainty

to see what is right before their very eyes IS what they hold sacred.

Their blind spot is more within their heart than their mind.

Like I said - it’s not even a question.

THere is nothing about “atheism” that entails an idea of sacredness. SO atheists can chose for themselves what they want to be sacred or otherwise.

If you think I am wrong then say why.
But I have explained myself here.

Fear is on the ones who believe with no evidence. Fear of mortality, of exclusion…
They are terrified of death…so they easily succumb to anything that promises eternal life, hope…aid in time of need…

Then, like typical nihilists, they project their won motives onto those that threaten them.

Homophobia…xenophobia…transphobia…Christians accuse atheist of fearing god…
Zero integrity…self-deceit, all the way down.

No, I don’t think the current scientific ability can measure what I am talking about. Nor can I prove the mental inclination of what I am talking about in describing this force that I call God. Instead I am just left with the mental intuition of what I think to be true. For me I am satisfied with that and that is simply enough.

I feel that not everything in this universe is explainable or knowable and perhaps that’s not necessarily a terrible thing.

This is the definition of delusion.

It seem what you hold sacred is that delusion.

Let me guess, the scientific one (delusion) is better? That’s how these kinds of conversations always end up it would seem.

Science works whatever you believe.
When you switch on your computer do you expect a host of heavenly angels to emerge from the screen? No.
When you start your car, you have a reasonable expectation that the engine will run. Instead of putting the key in the ignition why not just PRAY??

If I have problems with computers I go to a computer technician.

If I have problems of automobiles I go to a an auto mechanic.

If I have problems of the heart, existential problems, or problems dealing with the inherent evil of this world I go to religion.

Your science cannot help with everything, I know this and you know this as well.

DUH.
You said science was a delusion.
Problems of the heart - go to a cardiologist.
Problems of an existential kind, have a word with yourself.
“Inherent evil” is in your mind.

Ok so. What do atheists hold profane?

Saying anything is “inherently” anything unless complete mindlessness is behind it?

Are the Buddhists allowed to be mindful of that?

The below is basically what I meant in this case when I used the word sacred.

Yes, the word “sacred” can be used without implying a religious or holy meaning. While often associated with religious contexts, “sacred” can also be used to describe anything that is highly valued, respected, or treated as inviolable.

Being true to their beliefs - in other words. Atheism, to me, is just another form of belief - believing that there is no God.

Not spiritualy speaking in the common usage of the word.

A sense of INTEGRITY to one’s self and one’s thoughts could be thought of subconsciously perhaps as sacred to whomever…

A word is not a crystal, transparent and unchanged; it is the skin of a living thought and may vary greatly in color and content according to the circumstances and time in which it is used.

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

Most of the complaints about my question have been from people with an either/or position, but it is entirely feasible that Atheists can and do hold things sacred, even if the meaning they assign to the word sacred typically differs from the religious sense of the word. However, atheists experience awe – sacred moments, transcendent moments, moments of inexplicable wonder.

Therefore, sacred also has a broader, secular meaning: something regarded with deep respect, reverence, or devotion. Many atheists who reject the supernatural or religious aspects of sacredness may still use the term to describe things they hold in the highest esteem or treat with profound respect.

So, what might Atheists hold sacred? Despite being simply a lack of belief in gods and not subscribing to any particular religious values, many atheists report holding certain ideals, experiences, or aspects of life as “sacred” in the non-religious sense. Examples include:

  • Human life and well-being
  • Nature and the environment
  • Truth, reason, and scientific inquiry
  • Personal autonomy and freedom
  • Love, friendship, and family
  • Art, music, and cultural heritage
  • Moments of awe and wonder (e.g., looking at the stars, experiencing profound beauty)

These are not universal or dictated by Atheism but reflect individual values and sources of meaning.

Atheists can experience powerful feelings of awe, reverence, and even transcendence—emotions often described as “spiritual” or “sacred” in religious contexts. These experiences do not require belief in the supernatural but arise from deep engagement with reality, nature, or human relationships.

Some Atheists, such as Sam Harris, advocate for a “spirituality without religion,” emphasising practices and experiences (like meditation, self-transcendence, or compassion) that foster a sense of connection and meaning, absent any supernatural beliefs.

I accept that Atheism is not a belief system or ideology but rather simply a position on the existence of deities. Therefore, there is no single thing all atheists hold sacred, nor is there a “sacred” doctrine within Atheism. What is revered or deeply valued is highly individual and culturally influenced.

Therefore, Atheists can and often do hold things sacred, using the term to express deep respect, reverence, or devotion to ideals, experiences, or aspects of life that are meaningful to them. This sense of sacredness is rooted in secular values and personal meaning, not in supernatural belief.

That is basically the point that I was making above with the google quote.

So you are speaking to the choir here.

I have always had such a passion for trees. I am a tree hugger. lol When I was at the point in my life when I was close to being an atheist myself, I still loved trees. With or without God, I loved trees. Some of my Christian friends accuse me of being a pagan lol They cannot conceive of anyone having such a passion and love and reverence for trees as still being a Christian.

So I deeply feel that quote in just about every fiber of my being.

Not quite. As you know, there is nuance in what I write.

Philosophically speaking, just SIMPLY a position on the existence of deities? True

BUT…

Humanly speaking, there is nothing simple about a person’s lack of belief in God or seemingly choice not to believe in God. It goes far deeper than that.

Christianity is not interested in religions such an Atheism and Theism.

All my atheist friends and acquaintances would disagree with you.. you seem to be describing Paganism rather than Atheism.. an Atheist never ponders on ‘who’ or ‘what’ a God is.. or so they’ve told me.
.
What did they seem to hold sacred? ..very little, it seemed.

.
How is Atheism a religion? please explain..

Mere Thesim is a religion?

Of course mere Atheism is a religion because it believes things it can’t prove like attractive and repulsive electromagnetic force ABSOLUTES!!! cancel out and there is no God.

It’s impossible to cancel out attractive and repulsive electromagnetic force absolutes so any science founded upon +=- and -=+ philosophy like cosmology and particle physics is incorrect.

We know how science works. All of the sciences are founded upon +/-=+/- philosophy because + and - electromagnetic force absolutes are vibratory balanced out.All spinning objects (Matter) which contain spinning particles with N and S poles emit varying frequency electromagnetic energy waves which the SELF (Soul) spirit INTERPRETS.

Scientists, whether they are Atheists or Theists (it doesn’t matter) know this.
