Everyone has something to teach us–everyone–even Satyr, even Joker (but sometimes what they teach us is not what they intend to teach us).
What do you mean, Arc? You mean repulsed by their physical appearance? Or by more abstract things like their personality or their beliefs and such?
It’s OK to be repulsed–it’s natural–we all get repulsed sometimes–just as long as you don’t tell them that to their face (but I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that
).
Yes, “enhancement,” that’s the word I was looking for.
Makeup might be like a drug–something like heroin–it’s something that stimulates the brain in a way that other naturally occurring things in the world stimulate the brain… except multiplied by ten. Or maybe it’s like colors: the green neurons in our brains are most sensitive to things in the world like leaves, grass, certain vegetables like broccoli or cucumbers. This is like the neurons in our brains for physical attraction being most highly stimulated by “natural” looking people (not too fat, not too skinny, not too bulked up). The green neurons will also be sensitive to things that are blue or yellow (i.e. colors close to green), but not as much as things that are green. This is like being only somewhat attracted to people that might be a little fat, a little too skinny, or a little too bulked up. The green neurons will definitely not be stimulated by things that are red (the opposite of green) just like the attraction neurons in our brains not being stimulated by extremely unnatural looking people (way too fat, way too skinny, or way too bulked up). Nevertheless you can enhance the stimulation of the green neurons by taking something that’s already green and bumping up the saturation or brightness. Maybe that’s the effect that makeup has on our attraction neurons.
Or how 'bout this: you know how beauty changes over the centuries. During the Renaissance period, women who were a little plump were considered sexy. In the 70s, men with hairy chests were considered sexy. My theory is that the human brain learns to find certain kinds of look sexy or attractive. It probably somehow calculates, over time, what the typical or “average” person is supposed to look like and associates that with sexiness or attractiveness (this would also account for why “naturalness” looks attractive). If this is the case, then it would make sense out of why women who wear makeup, though not a natural feature of their skin/face, look attractive to men (and why men who wear makeup don’t to women–although there is something about a male rock star wearing makeup that makes him look sexy… but that’s another ball of wax). If this is what the typical woman does when she dresses up to go out–to work, to school, for a night on the town, or simply to go out shopping, etc.–then the brains of men (and women) are probably going to learn, over time, that the typical/average woman looks like women do when they wear makeup. And of course, since the typical/average man hardly ever puts on makeup, the brains of women (and men) don’t learn to associate makeup on a man with attractiveness/sexiness. If I were raised by wolves and never came into contact with humans, I’d probably find wolves sexy.
Anyway, I’m babbling.
Yes it does, but in this case, I think you’re being creative–which is also something that awareness does (or has)–but when it comes to creativity, it is more of an act of deciding what’s true and what’s not (or what works and what doesn’t)–there is nothing to learn, nothing beyond what you create for yourself at least. So if you want his name to be Gargoyle, that can be his name for you.
(OK, that was cheesy but it’s the best I could come up with).
You should make that your avatar.
