What do you think philosophy is?

Give me a definition of what you think philosophy is. I know it’s the love of wisdom or whatever, but I think sometimes it’s too broadly construed. Everything can’t be philosophy can it? What can we agree upon that should be excluded? Someone help me out here.

philosophy - one of the easiest mental activities to engage in (accidently or on purpose) with an unfortunately esoteric connotation

Philosophy is the constructing of ideas through a reliable methodology (usually reason) in order to improve the lot of man through its application. Science does this too, and I guess so does politics (or does it worsen our lot  ) but these latter two rely on totally different methodologies (experimental verification and social persuasion through charisma or finances, respectively). When these don’t work, philosophy is the way to go.

A conscious interpretation of the mechanisms employed in the awareness of concepts.

What, then, is the engagement of physical belief systems? You know… like materialism?

How did you come to that conclusion?

For me, you can get lower than metaphysics – it’s called physics – which can also, for many, (like people who study physics) be a core-belief system. In fact… I’m not sure, but I think that it’s a pretty big core-belief system in science.

What’s wrong with metaphysics being ‘beyond physics’?

Philosophy is the art of examining the questions to which there are no satisfactory scientific or religious answers to.

Good philosophy is the revaluation of all values.

Bad philosophy is Kant.

excellent philosophy is werklempter
