But what if you are all wrong and in the end when you are about to face the unexpected, you start to pray , just so as to cover all your basis? That’s why I’d rather be an agnostic, if I wasn’t a believer.
You read Kropotkin…
God is impotent and stupid.
You can bludgeon someone to death one minute, turn around and repent the next, and God has no choice but to forgive you.
God has a choice, and He chooses to forgive You. But He is inside You, and you have to forgive Yourself, and that’s also Your choice.
Without God, You could never forgive Yourself.
God ,The Creator, exists. The Creator made everything no matter how you spin it. There is no concept, no possibility beyond creation, no more. This is it. Glass half full or half empty is for you to decide.
We would go on.
is the old god angry at us for suggesting that he needs changing…
How can we discuss what a god may be like when we are ignorant of so much of what it’s like to be human? IMHO, the only God we could be aware of would have to be mother, father, sister brother–all possible human relationships. Do I exist? (Descartes) There is a firm belief that I do. Many have the belief that god exists. That belief is just as personal and convincing. But–to say what god is might be like an ant attempting to describe what an elephant is like.
I think I agree entirely…but it is important to talk about this god thing because people are making big mistakes in their life by believing some of the crap that comes from religious authorities…
I couldn’t agree more. The heaven and hell beliefs are a prime example of religious authorities trying to limit a god to the human concepts of justice. These are people one could label nominal Christians. For these justice trumps mercy. And god v\becomes the dictatorial tyrant who exists in some ethereal heaven.

wow…we are onboard together here…we need to talk some about the bible…I am going to start a thread on that…
The Bible is as good as its interpreters. Shakespeare noted that even the devil can quote scripture for his purposes.

Doesn’t human justice come from God?
Are you saying that mercy is better than justice? Why?

There is a big difference between saying that “we don’t know anything about God” and saying that “we know little about God”.
And then there is the atheist saying that “we make up everything about god because god doesn’t exist”.

Justice without mercy is inhumane.
That sounds good but how does it work in practice?
There are to be no consequences?
Are not fair consequences an ideal to strived for?

We see daily what justice without mercy is. The system of justice here in the US is based on retribution or revenge. Jesus taught against both.

I still don’t know how you expect it to work.
Somebody steals a car… what do you do about it?
Somebody kills someone … what do you do about it?
