I don’t remember what the infinite series was. They went through a lot of trouble to prove that everything after the first term was comparatively insignificant, so it allowed them to hold onto a simple formula (which they have always insisted must be the case).
Or did you want an explanation of what that first term actually means?
The common English translation of the equation is; “This is how much Effort is required to change/move something that is affixed, “M”.”
The reason that the speed of light gets into the picture is because the speed of light is actually what causes inertia, the resistance to change. If you could magically slow light down, matter would get softer. The Sun would become brighter but burn out much sooner. And if you could magically speed up light, matter would get harder and the Sun would become dim, but last much longer. Slow light down too much and the entire universe could not maintain sub-atomic particles and become nothing but an ocean of radiant energy, “light” (no matter at all).
In 1928 Dirac wrote his theory which showed :

The negative in that is the electric potential involved, the amount of energy of a negatively charged particle. It is not “negative energy”. Technically, as it is written, that equation is wrong. Negative energy is an oxymoron.
And although those videos are a good way to remember the basic equation, they represent an afterthought.

“Charge” refers to the amount of potential something has to cause motion. In the case of common physics, it refers to the ability of a particle to “push or pull” another particle without directly touching its mass (“potential energy”). And positive and negative refers to the direction of the action, toward or away from a chosen standard. The energy is the amount of ability to cause any motion at all and the sign of the charge is the direction of the motion imbued. Something either has the ability to move something else or it doesn’t. But the direction of the influence can be away from or toward, opposite direction of influence, “polarity”.
But you might want to keep in mind that even though the direction of equal influences can be opposite; “Positive and negative are NOT simply opposite”. The Taoist Yin-Yang is wrong, merely “relatively useful” or “practically correct”. The Higgs theory of perfect symmetry in all things is wrong, merely “relatively useful” or “practically correct”. And Relativity itself is wrong, merely “relatively useful” or “practically correct”. And there are significant inferences involving psychology and sociology because of that distinction and represent the major difference between Buddhism and Taoism as well as Christianity and Judaism or Islam, “Hope vs Fear” (fear causes one to run out of influence whereas hope gathers influence. Fear scatters. Hope gathers.).
Negative potential really means “less than the ambient potential”. Positive and negative represent potential relative to a normal, an ambient, or average, higher than Sea-level or lower than Sea level. It is like everyone in the entire world having $10 or more… except you. You would be said to be in a deficit, a “negative financial position” with “negative potential” (with respect to the norm) because you would have to be given money merely to reach the norm because the norm is that everyone has at least some money = “zero ambient”. If you are below the norm, it is called “negative”. The thing that physicists overlooked and you have to keep in mind is that you can run out. The Sea has a bottom. Negative has a bottom. In the long run, that is why electrons are the smaller of the naturally stable particles.
The “energy potential” is the money itself. And there is no negative money, merely more or less of it with respect to some standard. So energy is always a positive potential of influence (the amount of water/currency) and the only polarity involved refers to whether energy is being applied to take or to give, the direction of influence.
Yes, it would be great… until recently when they tried proposing “negative temperature” as a temperature that got above infinity and wrapped back around.

The “energy” of something is equivalent to its “mass” times the velocity of light squared.
Basically, “the velocity of light” represents, abstractly, the limit of existence in mathematical terms; “squared” raises that limit to the next dimension, like taking the area of a square, you just to x^2, the length of one side times itself.
You can also solve for m, therefore m=E/c^2
So if you take a “pure” singularly less dimensional physical construct/energy potential and “trap” it into higher-dimensional form (4D space-time) that energy converts into “mass”, basically spatial limitation. Mass is literally nothing but energy confined into a tighter space at the behest of gaining the potential to act within a new, higher dimension; to exist in a new way, to have “time”.
