The last month everyone has been up in arms over this election, and now it’s finally over.
While normally I don’t follow American, or Canadian politics for that matter very much, I must say I was thoroughly engaged and entertained this election.
I had some debates with friends and adversaries both off and online, and I sided with Trump more than Hillary.
According to I Side With, I agreed with Trump on about 50% of the issues, with Hillary on about 20%, with Johnson on about 70%, and with Stein on about 50%.
So I guess I’m more of a libertarian, but I have some environmentalist, nationalist and socialist tendencies.
Overall I don’t think any of the candidates really represented me that much.
Anyway, the last thing I want to do with this thread is turn it into another debate.
The election is over now, none of us know for certain what Donald is going to do.
Is he going to make good on many of his promises, or is he going to compromise, even sellout, or does he have something else in mind entirely, maybe he wants to make himself king of the world, who knows for sure?
My attitude is…wait and see.
What I would rather discuss for a change is what Donald and Hillary both have in common.
Are they really so different?
I mean just by the fact they’re both rich, powerful, white and ‘Christian’, well at least publicly, means they must have much in common.
I’d like to explore the similarities they have, in terms of both who they are as people, and most especially their policies.
Did one really represent change and the other the status quo, or were they both pretty well status quo, perhaps Donald only being slightly more for change than Hillary?
To get us started, I would like to point out a similarity they have.
They both believe in economic growth.
They both want to grow the economy.
Neither one of them said, they want the economy to stagnate, or decline.
Why not?
Another example, none of them talked much about legalizing more drugs, or for that matter, criminalizing more drugs, they both seem pretty happy with drug policy the way it is.
Are they really so different, or have we been sold an illusion of choice/change?
