Hi Scythe,

Could you provide any details on your research? Also, do you remember the name of the author/book that traced nearly all religion to an early form of hinduism?

I have read some journals that delve into the subject of the “religion family tree.”

unfortunately not, I was perusing the local library for stuff and came across this large book that had some awesome diagrams and backed up all of his claims.

it was about 12 years ago though, so I don’t remember the author’s name at all.

Anyway, I chose Buddhism. But your poll puzzles me. Buddhism is not bogus. Or is it?

Not necessarily. At least no more so that all the rest. I only mean to imply that no one religion will be held to be correct by everyone, and none of them can be proven nor disproven. In that sense, Buddhism is as absurd as the rest, at least to me. To accept it I’d have to accept several things I don’t believe are true for no other reason than that Buddhism teaches it.

It is time for God to invent new one… It is because Christianity is expired - we are living in this millenium thing, demands of the Jews for final exodus right away are neglected from day to day, millions of nirvana-achieved buddhist didn’t change a world toward bliss a bit and Taoism to my knowledge talks not about God but about "way’. Our old creative and talented God simply owe us new script.

I’ve always admired Buddhism (even tho I misspelled it in the post ). At one time I honestly considered “becoming” Buddhist, but the fact that it’s almost certainly made up nonsense held me back. That doesn’t mean I don’t still admire it- it’s really elegant, with it’s concepts of kharma and reincarnation. And I like the idea of attaining peace thru breaking of attachment.

If I could snap my fingers and make it actually true, I probably would.

Sorry I’m replying to a post made a while ago, but I’m rather taken aback by your crass and dismissive comment that Buddhism is ‘certainly made up nonsense’. I agree with you in that some ideas in Buddhism are undoubtedly difficult to accept, but the same is true for all religions. I believe - to paraphrase some philosopher, though I can’t remember who exactly at the moment - that’s where faith jumps in for reason. Also, it’s an undisputed concept that some things in religious texts are analogies (and thus hold truth within them, though they in themselves are not literally true), so this may be the case with your so-called ‘nonsense’. I have great respect for Christianity, but with all due respect to Christians, I can’t for a moment believe in the Story of Creation.

I guess “made up nonsense” sounded harsh, but IMOHO all religions are contrivences. Naturally I could be wrong, and I didn’t mean to single Buddhism out for criticism- it’s no more made up than the rest.

I’d love to believe in it, as it has an elegance and simplicity about it, and if I could talk myself into any religion, that would probably be the one.

You all suck, who the hell wants to be christian? Its to much of a finger pointing religion. And i dont fancy all those rules. And budism? Thats just to wierd. No no no, id be a hindu… totally the gods are way cooler with all their crazy arms. And id much prefer reincarnation than going to hell. At least youve got a chance then. But one i noticed you didnt have ralienism as a chance. I wish that was true. Anyone ever heard of ralienism? They believe that humans were cloned from aliens and that all the amazing prophets were original aliens. They are observing us and one day they will take the believeres into their ship and go to space and visit their homeplanet. Wierd but cool.
