You would need a nanotech virus that allowed your body to be completely imune to, well everything microbiological and chemicle. And gave you the ability to regenerate you cells rapidly. It would also need the abilility to repair any injury even if the body was killed and have a way to suply needed nutrients and oxygen to the rest of the body while the repair process was being completed so that no brain damage or other physical trauma ocured during the process and a way to repair “that” if it did, then a way to start the heart once the repairs on the killed form was complete. So that it would reanimate.
All of this in one upgrade.
And for it the only way to kill you would be to remove the head and this could also be fixed, if you gave the nano virus a way to store your last conciousness and then download it into you memory cortex. After your body was completed. Also obviousely the virus would need the ability to produce from energy the needed suplimants and tissues needed and access to your DNA so that i could replicate apropriately or repair it of any defect’s if necesary, IE hereditary desieses, vision problems ETC.
The perception of time’s passage must surely be one of the very top of our faculties.
If you must boil it down to something physical, I would say the resiliant, yet porous nature of our cellular membranes is what makes it all possible.
As far as an upgrade for myself…a completely self-contained metabolism, with no need for food, water, air, light, or heat from the outside would be nice.
Violent or traumatic deaths are actually quite rare on earth, and disease/breakdown issues are the worst.
From what I’ve studied, if people didn’t have any old age degenaration they would live for about 2000 years each. Old age-degenration issues are the biggest threat.
If nanotech ever got to be self-replacating [or a part bio, part nano, which is called ‘nanobiobot’] then the sky would be the limit.
Things like force fields would probably remove nanovirus threats.
When dealing with survival and body design–Killoon [fictional character on boardgame] focused primarily upon movement speed and preception during his body design upgrades.
Main idea being:
If you can see everything
And move faster then it
It can never reach you.
If souls do exist, then a powerful enough spirit upgrade/engineering would probably also be possible within the eventual Technological Singularity. This would mean that real “ghosts” would be flying around the earth, doing things [CIA & Pentagon would be very interested in ghost spies & assassins]. This would be hell to try to deal with, so things like forcefields and scanners would probably be deployed in high security zones…
Lo. SuperTech potentials would be insanely vast!
Excellent observation, he would then act like a bacterium.
Lol! How the heck???
lololo… oh man, that was funny.
Self contained metabolism would basically make you immortal. You could handle living on other planets, or on a desolated earth, etc. Needs are weaknesses, as I’ve said before. Great choice.
