It’s pretty obvious that a forum like philosophyforums can not last for more than two more years. All 5 of the administrators are atheists and they ban people for even questioning evolution or for pushing theism too hard. It’s pretty obvious that with that kind of behavior the site will just end up with a bunch of people who agree with each other and it will implode.
Moreover, it serves no purpose to simply talk to people who agree with you.
Well, I am an atheist and I was banned by the administrator postmodern beatnik. Why? Because, he assured me, I was “a possible troll” or “did not stick to topic”.
I was banned for posting precisely the same sort of stuff I post here.
Why do I believe I was banned?
Because I refuse to allow academics like beatnik to keep philosophy up on the skyhooks. I insist that philosophy must be brought down to earth. In particular, philosophy that engages moral, political and aesthetic values.
I truly did piss the bannos, the streetlightxs, the oldandrews, the creativesouls, the postmodern beatniks etc. off. But that was never my intention. I simply wanted to do philosophy “out in the world” that we actually live in. And they are quite inept there.
Postmodern Beatnik doesn’t strike me as very academic. I haven’t really seen much that is academic over there. In any case, I have a feeling that debating in humble webforums might even be better than debating in academic journal. in humble webforms people just forget the charlatanisms and cut to the chase.
By the way, I’m moving back to maryland (frederick) at the end of april maybe we could meet and talk philo?

Well… as long as one is not ad-homming and trolling all over the boards posters are free to express their minds and thoughts here at ILP - posters have been banned on other boards I have very-briefly visited just for merely querying something, and I think good philosophy allows us to query, no?
Suffice to say… I don’t even bother with boards like that, as philosophy is not a dictatorship

As I noted above, I was once a contributer to this forum. Then I was “banned for life” by administrator “postmodern beatnik” for posting the exact same things I post here.
Actually, I enjoyed posting there. In part, because the mods and administers took care to admit only those who had a background in philosophy and took it seriously. My “mistake” apparently was in suggesting that philosophy can only be taken seriously when it is brought down to earth.
So, I’m naturally curious: Why was “the account suspended”?
Someone probably complained about the way they treat people. The mods are all without exceptions pompous prigs with a broom handle up their asses and a massively overinflated self opinion as well, I would of shut the place down just for that. They are bone idle and can’t be assed to moderate the place properly so they just ban people on the tinniest of pretexts to encourage a more herd like structure where everyone thinks the same. It’s slowly killing itself by leaking members faster than a machine gun leaks bullets. It’s kind of like watching a car crash happen. The slow and remorseless grind of the mediocrity factory as its robotic and soulless Lieutenants stiffle any life out of the place.
Sadly though it seems they appealed as the site is back up. 
well, it’s clear the mods and the admins aren’t going to learn anything because it’s clear that they are so closed-minded that they kick out anyone who disagrees with them. If you can’t tolerate being criticized then you’re not going to get anywhere.
They always say that people don’t know when they’ve got it good… until you take it away from them, that is

That website is full of the philosophically college educated of whom have never spent any large percentage of their lives off a college campus to actually know of anything they are talking about. They know nothing about real life expiriences beyond the theories they project, analyze, or study.
It’s like college philosophy professors talking about social inequality of whom have never had a working class job within poverty or that have expirienced it at first hand.
Philosophy is dominated by tons of educated assholes like these that are so restricted to text that they lack all expirience with real life beyond theoretical approaches.
Such philosophers can eat me. They can eat my shit.

While many of the posters there do seem to have some academic background, a quick look at the profiles of the posters participating in the General Philosophy section reveals many people have many different backgrounds.
They do seem to have standards, but that might not be a bad thing.
You know what I think of people’s standards? Fuck em. Especially enforced standards where people uphold obnoxious ideologies of propriety and decorum.
Is that why they enforce grammar, sentencing, and other non philosophical attributes on their forum?
Also from my expirience there seems to be a central group that dominates the forum there that instantly jump on anybody that thinks differently from them.
That’s how alot of so called philosophers these days are especially those who publish, lecture at universities, or are philosophical students at a university.
They all can recite philosophy from memory very well where they all kotow the popularly accepted philosophies of our day in what is accepted by general academia but beyond the university campus and the classrooms or the very books they recite from they know nothing of the rest of the real world around them in that they lack real life expiriences. Many philosopy professors and the students they teach to come from the upper social strata of the socially privileged areas of society which in my view only illustrates even further their lack of real life expiriences with the rest of the world around them. Many are so entirely naive that it’s amusing especially when I try to converse with some of them.
Given that many of them come from socially privileged backgrounds in segregated areas from the rest of society sitting in position from their ivory towers to which they only view other people from above their naivety and lack of expiriences becomes all the more clearer.
Alot of them are also afraid to go beyond popularly accepted academia or question popular public forms of opinion for fear of themselves becoming perceived as public heretics that it is for that reason why I view many of them as intellectual cowards.
There is very few philosophers of modern academia that I can even remotely respect since so few actually challenge the boundaries of modern society and all that encompasses it. Most people of academia today hide behind their titles challenging nothing and know nothing of the real world around them. All they do is kowtow philosophical texts and expouse fantasy idealisms. Many also are used for political purposes as writers for party factions in creating propaganda pieces for the general public too as hired hands. Such a waste.
