there is a common question (water cooler type of talk) that is proposed by people who casually delve into the area of the essence of god. the question they pose is this.
can god create a rock that he himself can’t lift?
this question tests upon the limitations of logic and the idea of infinite. now here is my experiment. if you posed this question to a group of christians and a group of muslims, i personally think this would be the result
the christians would really have a no really good or definite answer. the yes and no would most probably be split down the middle.
the muslims would actually have a more definite answer, which is yes. that would be the majority of opinions.
let me explain why i made the conjecture.
this thought experiment (which einstein was notorious for) which i created came indirectly from reading the lecture from Pope Benedict the XVI, entitled “Faith, Reason and the University—Memories and Reflections”. apparently this lecture he gave is the infamous one which caused so much insult to islamic scholars and leaders across the world. the link is found below.

The decisive statement in this argument against violent conversion is this: not to act in accordance with reason is contrary to God’s nature. The editor, Theodore Khoury, observes: “For the emperor, as a Byzantine shaped by Greek philosophy, this statement is self-evident. But for Muslim teaching, God is absolutely transcendent. His will is not bound up with any of our categories, even that of rationality.” Here Khoury quotes a work of the noted French Muslim R. Arnaldez, who points out that Ibn Hazn went so far as to state that God is not bound even by his own word, and that nothing would oblige him to reveal the truth to us. Were it God’s will, we would even have to practice idolatry.[4]
now note what Khoury (or Arnaldez) says. the islamic god is NOT bound to reason or rationality. he transcends all and everything, even his own words and himself. in essence, he can do whatever he wants and MORE. he has absolutely NO limitations. so he can at will crate that rock. and then he can just raise his already infinite power to a higher infinite and then lift that rock.
in the christian doctrine, the most commonly accepted idea is that god is at least bound to his word, that he is still bound by rationality. it is said by some christian scholars that this christian viewpoint on god was what initially provided the driving force for people like galileo, newton, and copernicus to learn more about nature. they believed that to learn more about nature was what god wanted.
at this time, i can only say that not all faiths and not all humans are created equal. some faiths and humans are just better, at least in terms of human growth and progress. while islam may be harsh and cruel with draconian laws implemented to keep its power intact, the faith by itself would never stand.
christianity today is loosing its power and slowly dying away. i like to say that christianity will in the end die a cold death, by dying with a whimper.
islam on the other hand is growing, and mainly because of the large number of births in islamic families. islam like everything in this universe will die, but the way it will die is probably from a hot death. it will die with a bark and bite trying desperately to survive and hold on.
so in conclusion, christianity did get at least a few things right. i am of the opinion that the whole enlightenement and revolutions and renaissance which occurred in christian based europe wasn’t by just dumb luck or accident.
