Who is your favorite fashion designer, and why?

Who is your favorite fashion designer, or least favorite; and why?

For starters, I do have an affinity for the cold designers: I mean cold colors, cold cuts: like Prada. But it’s too robot, too modern, I mean, if we all dress like Star Trek in the furure, that’s gonna be sad. But on the other hand, Versace is just to rich, too green, too Mediterranean. By nature I am a cold person, yet I adore the luxury of Versace’s style. Despite their prices, Prada is not real luxury and opulence. But I did love Versace’s line, “I love Los Angeles, it’s so superficial.” At least he admits it and and sees the beauty in what is shallow.

For complexity of statement, Alexander McQueen and that crew deserve recognition, but their work is Art, no one would wear that, there has to be a line somewhere that says: ‘beyond here is not fashion anymore, it’s Art.’

I love Kenneth Cole, not for his run of the mill stuff, but for his sarcasm, his ads are too funny: “Ten million people are dying of AIDS/but we prefer to stay clothes minded.”

Yves Saint Laurent, the “last true couture,” should make a sophisticated taste happy. But what is he doing that wasn’t done in the 50’s, his stuff looks like what Jackie O wore. His claims to avant garde seem to come to nothing but cuts on a bias.

The fashion designer I most like the work of is Dolce and Gabbana. They have the luxurious extravagance of Versace, but their colors are less rich, maybe some countess from Norther Italy might fit into their fashion.

As a further topic of discussion, how racist are the big fashion houses? Even Anna Sui is a born and bread American. Would Ralph Lifshitz really have failed if he hadn’t changed his name? Can you name even one Oriental Model. And not for lack of beauty. Has anyone been watching the Korean I am a Model? Frankly only the one contestant is too beautiful, but the pannel of judges sure are beautiful. These days the runway models are more and more coming from Eastern Europe: the same look, but they come cheap. Why has the Euro-American fashion industry accepted Africans, but not Orientals?

the best designer is Wrangler…

Now why doesn’t that surprise me…

Nike

He keeps me under the social radar.

I am also fond of collecting the latest brands of purses and I know an online service http://nycfashions.net it will give you the full information on the replica of latest brands of Louis Vuitton. I have purchased two of them and hope you will also like the collection.

the children in indonesia that hand make my clothes for walmart.

Hickey Freeman or Ted Baker.

I like Ozwald Boateng – his clothing is incredibly ostentatious while still managing to be classy. Running up to the line of bad taste, stopping just before he teeters over, and then manages to make it work.

When I feel like crossing that line (and not going horrifically broke), the gruesome twosome of Margareta van den Bosch/Ann-Sofie Johansson suit me just fine. Loud clothing with bright multi-colored prints suits me just fine. Just because I can’t see color doesn’t mean I won’t inflict my sense of it on the world!

If its inexpensive and fits, thats what I like. I wouldn’t know designers if you paid me.

Lucky for you:

(Just keep hitting Google Images and you’ll be amazed what you can learn in just an afternoon.)

Fashion is not unlike may other borderline criminal arts like chess and Frank Lloyd Wright, to be a well rounded and knowledgeable person you must know something about it.

Good description. “Boateng was born in Ghana…” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozwald_Boateng This explains the Google Images results.

Dullish, no?

 Jean, I live out in the sticks, who would I wear the clothes for? My husband who thinks I look great in a Tshirt and blue jeans  especially this time of year  , our son, our dogs , our cats or the live stock down the road? I go into town once a week for groceries . About 3 times a year I may do some socializing and that is usually accidental. My husband has more good clothes then I do. He is the one that goes everywhere, I run this home front. Clothes I have yet to find a need to understand. If it is cheap, fits, is durable and comfortable then I get it if I need to. If you could be kind enough to explain to this city girl turned country woman why clothes are so important, i would apreciate it. I just simply never got it.

I hate all the crap with the really expensive designer clothes. Giorgio Armani and all that crap.

Celebrities buy it because other people say it looks good. They buy it only because of who makes it. I want to make the ugliest design imaginable and have one of those designers sell it as theirs. Watch all the morons wearing it around.

It is evil; who doubts that?

But, it is an important Modern Art. One should be familiar with Fashion in the same way one should be familiar with the politics of Sri Lanka, chess openings, or wines. A well rounded person should have some familiarity with the history and significances of Fashion.

Art? Ok I can see some of it being artistic. The rest is designed to cause humans pain and discomfort. Now why is that important?

it helps pique white liberal guilt…

There is fashion and then there is style. Any idiot with enough money can play the fashion game, but the person who knows style is the winner. Nothing like seeing spandex waddling down the street because it is “fashionable”. :unamused: :-&

I prefer not to wear labels.

fuck fashion.
