For me it was bruce lee, he introduced me to philosophy by accident when I picked up his books for the pleasure of learning martial arts. All of a sudden I felt this intense love of philosophy and religions. Immediately I was transformed from a tough guy to a soft guy who loves to learn all kinds of things and experiences.
And when I bought his book, I let some of my teachers borrowed it, and I saw their life transformed also. Is this enlightenment, or is this divine madness?
Bruce taught the principle of being fearless.
Hmmm…
I teach myself more then im tought by others. Nobody breaths for me.
The greatest philosophy is the strong will to improve, isn’t it?
I like “the master key” alot, it was written by Charels Haanel.
It is about were all human power comes from and helped me realize why sertain people had power over me, or who i personaly had power over. There is much to be said about it all. If you would like a copy of this book just send me a PM and we can talk.
What isn’t a “waste of time” hm?
Time wastes itself because of human decay. Mortality makes everything mundane because of you’r realization that it is temporary and it is not enough. When we dont exersize our body gets weaker and is less healthy. When we dont philosophize part of our mind also gets weaker and less healthy. Wasn’t it Aristotle who advised Alexander-the-great to persue a wide variety of interests? I would call this “balanced development”. We can only develop and focus a sertian amount of ourselves at a time, but if we sat and did nothing, even what we had would be taken away. If physical decay was ever geneticaly cured, this would change how we lived. We would no longer lose what we had gained. Our rate of improvement on a personal level would be revolutionary, and if old age was cured, this revolution would not only pick up momentum, but the progress would never have to end. Then we would see basic “perfection” in society, because the group is only as good as the individuals that the group is made of.
I’ve thought about the system and the cure for many years of my life now, and i know that im right. Our main problem/enemy is decay. Modern organics are doomed individuals, yet are a resiliant mass. It is stupid, but it “works” and could have/should have been far better then it is!
I like this reponse to mini dan and I appreciate that you put in the qoutes of bruce but I think that was a waste of time yet it will enlighten others.
who in the world is samuel colt, why is he great.
I’m sure if there will be more posts in the future, we can surely see philosophy itself.
However, I must point out the greatest teacher we have
is our experiences. We learn from our experiences far more then
we do from any one book or philosopher. As Nietzsche is the one
who teaches us to learn from our experiences, the winner must
be Nietzsche. However don’t forget Hume who showed us
experiences get interpreted by the senses and the senses are often wrong.
Being ignorant myself and seeking to learn …
I have read an outline to new philosophers that I have never knew before, whom was Colt and Nietzsche.
I have to agree that Nietzsche did not said anything about experience, as I remember studying something about experiences I think that was Decartes, however, he was definitely influential. Now Colt, on the other hand, the inventor of guns, I find myself in a question why would he be called a philosopher.
What can I say. He never taught anything, yet he is qualified to be great? It was Plato who did most of the talking for Socrates in all of the texts.
knowing much about Aristotle, he is qualified to be great in my mind.
Dan, I think you should read Cioran, a Romanian thinker, immediately. With him, you will learn to appreciate the “great” and the “greatest” thinkers of all time in a very peculiar way. That will prevent you of doing such pathetic questions anyway. And that will also teach you the “true importance” of philosophical thinking…
I’m utterly and indelibly stunned by your words, Fabiano… Oh, yes, indeed I am…
I have never in my life imagined that Cioran, although quite known in France and, probably, not a complete stranger in Europe, could have spanned such a distance. I am filled with national pride, what can I say…
he said,… does a horse raiser hurt a horse? Then why does the just man hurt the unjust?
He said that all those years ago,… and we just now have the power to use psychology in the prisons, to really rehabilitate criminals by changing self defeating patterens that landed them there.
is the pen mightier then the sword? Not really. The buddhist proverb says that word mean nothing with out action to bring them to life.
All philosophers are great according to the worldview that views them as great. I personally believe that there has been no thinker greater than Shankaracharya (or Adi Shankar). Please google his name now!
