who was the greatest philosopher and what did he teach?

:astonished: wow, after reading through most of this, i dont’ think i’ve seen one Plato. Well to me Plato was the greatest philosopher, closely followed by Socrates and then Aristotle. The main reason why i’m not a big fan of Aristotle is because he’s an Empiricist and i don’t agree with the senses, i love Plato for many reasons but is Rationalist thinking is a better answer then Aristotle’s. Well i’m still pretty new to all of this though, so who knows my opinion might change, but from all that i have read, Plato is the best

I don’t know but I think this might be because most people have moved on beyond Plato. His ideas are, well… Silly.

Silly? :astonished: Could you elaborate on this? Do you mean the idea of the ā€œFormsā€? or something else? #-o

if jesus isn’t a philosopher,(i’m not implying he is) than i have nothing more to say on this thread. ever.

Sorry, but Advaita Vedanta does not make sense.

I want to be the ā€œgreatest philosopherā€ [if possible], and I wish to teach propriety of human existence. The structure and order of will/desire.

The value of [individual] people is so complex and unique that it is hard to judge who is ā€œbestā€. World leaders have the most important jobs on earth. My favorite sorts of people are medical scientists and convervative work/power technology researchers.

I am for the best preservative/concervative philosophers.

Some of you guyz, just makes me laugh.

Since you cannot take all of them very seriously, laughing is all you can do. =D> =D> =D>

the greatest philosopher will be the one who proove definitively that no man is ā€œgreatā€, even if he can ā€œunderstandā€ his time better than other men do.

His name is not the issue but he taught that ā€œWhen it rains, the pavement becomes wet.ā€

i’m a 2nd vote for aristotle.

Are you talking of Judgements of experience, the ones who arise as result to empirical observation but are necessarily universal, due to the a prioric categories of our intelect, e.g. causality and analogy ? In that case, the name is Kant, although I am pretty sure that his example was about the sun warming the stones when it comes out.

Ayn Rand.

She was the first to link metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, politics and economics in a truly rational, practical, life-affirming way.

Arr! Yea’ should feast yeh eyes upon a treasure me’n me mateys found last full moon! Tablets o’ Emerald! Arr! Tablets o’ some character named Thoth. They be in some queer language, but I’d bet some learned types might be able teh decipher it, arr, for a price at least!

One who has not only many followers but also including those that are great philosphers, thus the father of philosopher. Who is he then? The origin? Thales, which scholars proclaim he was he first philosoper?
