Why are strangers on the city bus ride to me?

They bump into me and they ignore and do not talk to me.

People only have so much bandwidth. Focus on the ones regularly in your life. Show strangers how to be nice by example. Cut yourself some slack, too… and make sure the slack is evenly distributed to others.

It would be handy if you would complete the sentence in the title. What are strangers on the bus to you?

As for bumping into you, that is hardly avoidable in most public transport and as for not talking to you, you may have an expression on your face that says, “Don’t talk to me!”

Why don’t you talk to them?

You can’t tell that he meant rude instead of ride in the title?

They never talked to me either when I use to utilize public transit. I think it’s because nobody likes the fact they have to utilize the service to begin with.

I remember living in a large city and every so often the police would have to come on the busses physically removing trouble makers. One time there was even a gun shot at a bus stop where several police cars surrounded the area looking for the shooter. So glad I don’t live in that city anymore, what a nightmare that place was.

If you’re looking for friends try hobby meetups or public events. I think you’ll have better luck there.

I cannot say public transit is an effective way at meeting people at all.

There’s a huge cultural component. You have a different experience in southern Europe or Latin America. The West is very focused on individuality and privacy. Other cultures stress community and then it can also be viewed as a positive way to exist is to show warmth and kindness to other people and that gets prioritized over privacy.

Is it possible that if you lived in one of those countries, you’d be asking us why people bother you all the time with small talk?
