I’m not arguing that America is fully bad but their position of America being the best country in the world is simply not true it is a very subjective Republican patriotic claim that is not objective.
Because people with a sliver of pride and joy in life feel that way about their country.
So, what country do you feel is the greatest country?
As @Socrates said. You can see, for example, Vojislav Šešelj : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bO-BevzyV6Y
USA is not bad at all. I mean, I would choose to be born in it any day over, say, Eritrea
You answered a question about loving one’s country, but that was not the question.
The question was why do you think its the GREATEST country.
The implications are completely different.
I love my country. Its the earth and land that gave birth to me and raised me, its the home of my vessel and its bound to it in both sentiment and blood.
But i would never address it as the “greatest” of anything.
In a way that sounds almost insulting. It implies being blind to it’s struggles, problems, negatives, basically omitting half of her personality and lying about who she is.
I don’t know if you are responding to me. Your post came directly after my post, but it’s not connected to any previous post. In any case, if this was a response to me, I missed where he said what the greatest country is, so I asked. What was his answer?
But if you weren’t responding to me, never mind.
Mostly overall wealth and standard of living, along with the Constitution.
A relatively stable society with relative rule of law (far from perfect, but better than most other places).
A standard of living materially where even the poor have access to food, TVs and iPhones. Often paid for by the government. Of course the relative wealth of America has been sustained in huge part by debt for decades now, once that crashes down things will change.
And also it’s an emotional thing, they want to feel they are “the best” and if their country is the best then they by extension get to be the best too, looking down on the rest of the world they have invariably never been to and know nothing about.
Because most republicans are bourgeois or business owners and so are their family descendants.

So which is the greatest country: Canada or Peru?
It is Zimbabwe.
Iceland if you’re lucky enough to be born there.

So, that’s where Socrates lives? Or that’s your answer? or it’s a joke? The layers, man.
So, we couldn’t make these choices before 1966?
Iceland did something amazing when the fucking money game players fuck the entire economy in 2008 everybody was telling them to do what everybody else did which was to bail the banks out what did they do and unlike nearly every nation on the planet their attitude was Let It Burn. A jail the bankers who fucked the country and they let the banks die. Pretty much every single other country bailed out the banks which meant the taxpayers paid to save the banks and the rich people. Even Obama who gets called the Communist brought in the Wall Street people and they pulled the same bullshit. It was no communist. No other country jailed so many powerful people. no other country let their currency devalued to whatever level it devalued to. everything they have to do in such situations Iceland said fuck that. While the United States find companies, which means that the actual criminals didn’t have to pay a penny, iceland put a lot of these shit heads in prison. Did they get the real behind the scenes super rich? No. They got the pretty fucking Rich who went along with the program a lot of those guys went to prison.
As per the plan most countries / things that help the poor and unemployed and homeless. Words what the IMF and other supposedly helpful organizations have been doing to the second and third world forever was done to countries in the West. You have to they screamed you’ll destroy your country if you don’t do what we’re telling you you have to do austerity measures you can’t arrest these people you have to bail out the banks all that BS.
So, iceland ends up doing better than both Europe in the United States it has much less debt it’s GDP is doing very well. They managed to keep people working also. Managing to take care of the poor the insane the elderly etc etc the only thing that’s hard for them is Imports because when they let the the Krona devalue it put them at a disadvantage there. But that’s a small price to pay for an overall much better economy than all the idiots who did exactly what the billionaires wanted them to do. There was at least a modicum of Justice. And the people stood strong with each other.
Kropotkin:
Much of 20th century philosophy revolved around our choices,
Sartre said that ‘‘Man is condemned to be free’’…
and before that, Keirkegaard said that ‘‘we must make a leap
of faith’’ that leap, that is a choice… the idea of
having a ‘‘social construct’’ is really one of, what choices
are we going to make… collectively and individually…
and the idea of a ‘‘social construct’’ allows us to make these
choices… so, yes, picking and choosing is an integral aspect
of being human… and that is only possible within a social
construct idea of being human…
Greenfuse: So, we couldn’t make these choices before 1966?
K: and once again, showing us very lazy or nonexistent reading
skills… show me exactly where I even implied 1966? Kierkegaard
wrote in the 1840’s/50’s and Sartre wrote that ‘‘people are condemned
to be free’’ in the 1940’s, I believe… so, where do you come up
with 1966?
Kropotkin
Right here. I bolded it, too, in my quote of what you wrote (speaking of lazy reading)
1966 is when the idea of social construct reached at least some of the population via sociologists Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann in their 1966 book The Social Construction of Reality. That idea was used earlier in the 19th century, but very few people would have heard of it. You said the idea allows us to make those choices. I think people were able to make those choices long before that idea. What Kierkegaard and Sartre said are not connected to Social Constructivism. Both were opposed to social contructs with different emphases. The way you present ‘social construct’ is confused. It is not like a choice on a menu, but actually a mere habit in society. If you mean that once we realize this we are then free, you are still not in the same ballpark, but that would take a longer essay to go into.
In any case, well before the idea of a social construct was something people knew about people could make those choices, as the example of Kierkegaard certainly and likely Sartre too actually demonstrate.
Too much ice. Better go to Greenland, much more green
Greenland has much more ice and less green - not that there’s a lot of green in iceland, though perhaps this was the joke. Global warming is reducing the ice in Greenland.
