Why Do We Have Two Brains?

I have discussed this phenomenon in many of my topics
It has been the subject of my research for forty years
that field work is outlined in my book - Psyche-Genetics

I am currently fleshing out (subject to available data) what I believe to be a reasonably definitive theory
on the reason why we have two brains
and what their inter-relationship means to each of us
I will post a draft when ready

In the meantime
your thoughts on this would be valuable
as well as any available data that I may have missed

Because if men didn’t think with their penes we wouldn’t be here.

Why is the Cerebral Cortex Split in Two?

There are several existential questions we need to ask ourselves
as to why we each walk around with two brains housed inside a single head

Why are two cerebral cortex’s necessary for our survival?
Do both brains experience the same perception of reality?
If not, what is the basic function of each brain?
How do we process information?
How do we consciously access both brains?
Which side of the brain engages us in dreams?
Why do we dream?
How important are the answers to these questions?

If we can determine the precise evolutionary purpose underlying the need for having two brains
can we, then, evaluate the survival advantages of two separate modes of perception in a more comprehensive manner than we do at present.?

From that position of knowledge we may be able to redefine the enigmatic dynamic of the human psyche – of being both objectively analytic and subjectively intuitive at one and the same time. - and thereby devise and introduce an entirely new methodology designed for a more holistic dual brain education - and in doing so - improve our intelligence and the ethical quality of our lives.

What Science does know about the two brains

Anatomically, we know from split-brain research that the left side of the cortex controls the motor reflexes of the right side of the body and processes mental perception analytically and that the right hemisphere handles the left motor reflexes and is the source of intuitive insights.

Left and Right Brain Modes of Perception

Intellect - intuition
Convergent - divergent
Digital - analogic
Secondary - primary
Abstract - concrete
Directional - free
Propositional - imaginative
Analytic - relational
Lineal - non lineal
Rational - intuitive
Sequential - multiple
Analytic - holistic
Objective - subjective
Successive - simultaneous
J.E.Bogen
"Some Educational Aspects of Hemispheric Specialization "
in UCLA Education 1972

Though not conclusive there is some validity to the argument that the left and rights sides of the brain respectively represents the masculine and feminine principles of the individual psyche

Here are some insights from the I Ching or Book of Changes

Yin - yang
Feminine - masculine
Negative - positive
Moon - sun
Darkness - light
Yielding - aggressive
Left side - right side
Cold - warm
Autumn - spring
Unconscious - conscious
Emotion - reason

After examining data from his split-brain experiments neurosurgeon Professor Sperry made the following statement:

“The main theme to emerge is that there appear to be two modes of thinking, verbal and non-verbal, represented rather separately in left and right hemispheres respectively, and that our education system, as well as science in general tends to neglect the non-verbal form of intellect. What it comers down to is that modern society discriminates against the right hemisphere.”

Roger W. Sperry
“Lateral Specialization of Cerebral Function
in Surgically Separated Hemispheres” 1973

In the forty years since wining the Novel Prize for Sperry’s work on the two brains, neither the State nor private educational systems has done anything about that warning from the Nobel Prize laureate and tried to correct the imbalance. The main reason why is because nobody as yet has explained exactly what the value of intuitive input is or even why the brain is split into two separate modes of perception in the first place. Consequently nobody is certain how to devise the exact right brain exercises that could correct the imbalance.

One of Sperry’s disciples, Dr. Betty Edwards, devised a system of simple drawing exercises designed to excite the right brain into creative expression. She achieved almost instant success with all her beginner art students within a few weeks they progressed from initial childish sketches to astonishing minor master pieces. Since then her book “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” has sold several million copies and remains a perennial best seller

So we know, at least, that the right brain is home to artistic perspective and that with a little stimulus it responds positively and beneficially.

But we still do not know exactly how valuable or how vital that input is - not just in terms of encouraging a more holistic conscious development - but also in terms of how the output of both brains working in harmony could improve the general level of the human intelligence quotient and social behavior in particular

In the next segment
I will post a visual exercise that clearly reveals left/right brain conflict
You can then decide how serious this disconnect is
and whether you want to correct it

We have one brain which works dualistically,
on the Quantum theory of Dualism of particle.
== .
“… indeed an understanding of psi phenomena and of
consciousness must provide the basis of an improved
understanding of quantum mechanics.”
/Evan Walker./

So, the problem of
‘Left and Right Brain Modes of Perception ‘
Intellect - intuition
Convergent - divergent
Digital - analogic
Secondary - primary
Abstract - concrete
Directional - free
Propositional - imaginative
Analytic - relational
Lineal - non lineal
Rational - intuitive
Sequential - multiple
Analytic - holistic
Objective - subjective
Successive - simultaneous
J.E.Bogen

can be explain only by the theory
of “Quantum dualism of consciousness” .
=================================== .

On the contrary we have a triune brain system
each of which, when surgically severed, functions independently
1 The R- Complex
2. Limbic System
3. Neo-Cortex

In addition when the corpus callusum (the thick bundle of nerves connecting each half of the cerebral cortex) is severed
each side continues to work without observable effect

With all due respect to Mr Walker
he is reasoning with only one half of his brain
and the result sounds like garbled nonsense.

His reference to quantum mechanics is, however, interesting
But until such time as particle physicists recognize that consciousness has to be an essential motivating attribute
of atomic radiation and not the result of it, the mystery of being will remain a riddle to science

Primal Consciousness IS
it must preempt material evolution
it could not have evolved out of some kind of atomic chemical recipe
it has to be the essence of the hydrogen atom

human consciousness is at the pinnacle of conscious evolution
of all three billion specie on the planet
we alone are super-naturally unique
no other specie is remotely as cosmically aware
or creatively inspired as we are
we dominate the planet
Our consciousness cannot be measured or quantified

What defines consciousness?

Consciousness is not possible without a state of awareness
awareness is not possible without prior existential experience
thus Primal Consciousness must have dispersed throughout the cosmos during the Big bang
already endowed with prior experience
if this is so
then everything is largely qualified by design and only quantitatively random

The dual-brain argument that will be presented here will not only emphasize Prof Sperry’s claim of right brain scientific discrimination; it will also show that the current educational system of almost exclusive left brain analytical indoctrination has seriously unbalanced our perception of reality …

Our neglect of right brain exercises and reliance on only half a brain has led us away from an intuitive Belief in Divine Design - firstly into an Age of rebellious religious protest and self-determination - then currently, as the finite limitations of physics become increasingly apparent; into a wilderness of self doubt, collective doubt - purposelessness and irrationality - consequently the existential need to analyze what has happened to us.

The cure is not in yet more analysis
but in an evocation of the balancing nature of the right brain

How we actually evoke the powers of the right brain
depends on what we know about this mysterious side of our psyche
which science has lulled to sleep

It is this imbalance that I am examining
and hoping to correct

I have experimented with my theory on dual-brain developmen for the past twenty years
while homeschooling my eight kids
I have introduced a wide range of right brain exercises
that neatly balance left brain scientific analysis
four are now adults
three are in their teens
one has Downes Syndrome
the test results are remarkable.

Their common sense is far above average
their extra-sensory perception is para-normal

The correct balance
has resulted in perfect students
and exceptionally compassionate human beings
who cannot be swerved from the left to the right
but always remain centered

Here is clear proof that we have two modes of perception
and that the two brains are in conflict
and have difficulty working in harmony
It supports my claim that a script based child indoctrination system of education
has the potential to seriously compromises our perceptions of reality

Try the dual brain exercise listed below aloud
and without pause if possible

balance

the cross over , the right hand , left side of the brain , the left hand , right side of the brain

The dual-brain argument that will be presented here will
not only emphasize Prof Sperry’s claim of right brain
scientific discrimination

socratus I agree.
Our computer-brain works on a dualistic basis.
The human brain works on two levels:
consciousness and subconsciousness. The neurons of brain
create these two levels. So, that it means consciousness and
subconsciousness from physical point of view ( interaction
between billions and billions neurons ). It can only mean
that the state of neurons in these two situations is different.

MagnetMan
Our neglect of right brain exercises and reliance on only half
a brain has led us away from an intuitive Belief in Divine Design

socratus I agree.

socratus I don’t agree.
Because when Galaxies heard about the Big bang,
they run away from such human’s intellect.

I explain the Source of The Consciousness in the article:

========= .

The human brain works on two modes of perception
analytic and intuitive

The analytic (light-conscious -10%) side relies on the five senses for survival information
the intuitive (dark-conscious -90%) side permutes this incoming stream of experiential information
and comes up with inspired ideation (sometimes in “dreams”)
that may be able to improve survival chances
and then transmits those ideas back for analysis
and possible artistic or technological application

I love your science fairy tale
but only in part
for i believe that an occassional accident or random event
is an essential aspect of good design
but too much accident
leads only to chaos

besides
however small the quant of information in each of the electrons
squashed together in the Singularity
that itty bit of consciousness had to have come
from prior experience

Kind regards
MM

We don’t literally have two brains. We have one. The brain can functionally divided up in a number of way for heuristic purposes. There are difference in left and right hemispreic function, yes. But one can also say there is the repitilian brain, the mammalian brain and the human brain. Or, one could say that there is a visual cortext, an auditory cortex, a motor cortex, an associative cortex etc. But literally speaking, there is one brain which integrates a host of different functions.

Faulty premise.

We have one brain and two hemispheres. One that performs many of the functions of the other, it’s called redundancy and obviously its evolutionarily advantageous.

Lets get off the semantics
and get on with the nitty gritty
if you want to call three separate brain control centers
one brain
fine
even though it is generally accepted by neurologists
that we have a dual brain system
connected by a corpus callosum

Now why do we need two cerebral cortex’s?
What is the evolutionary advantage
beyond one being a handy spare?

I will give you three clues

  1. Think day-time consciousness
  2. Think night-time consciousness
  3. Think back to comparatively recent times - before artificial night lights changed the way we think

Another science fairy tale for you .

Once upon a time, 20 billions of years ago, all matter
(all elementary particles and all quarks and
their girlfriends- antiparticles and antiquarks,
all kinds of waves: electromagnetic, gravitational,
muons gluons field … etc.) was assembled in a single point.

And then there was a Big Bang. !!!

About this famous Big Bang theory was written
the thick (very thick) books.
But anywhere didn’t write about the reason of the
Big Bang. Anybody doesn’t know the reason.
I know.
Action, when the God opens his palm,
we have named the “Big Bang”.
And action, when the God compresses his palm,
we have named " a single point".
============ ========= ======.

Sorry to prick your fairy bubble, old sport
but Newton told us why gravity works, centuries ago

But then again
re-telling tales
learned from other tale tellers
avoids the mental ordeal of trying to use both brains in order to imagine
and entertain us
with one of your very own

Why not take the three clues I gave you
then take a bold step of your own
into a space where no other man has stepped before
and try to explain precisely why we need two brains in order to survive

THAT will be a tale worth hearing!

Show me a study that claims we have three brains and I’ll agree with you.

Reptilian brain
Mammalian Brain
Human Brain (cortex)

Each evolved separately
allowing consciousness to expand beyond basic physical survival
and reflect on the meaning of existence

It is in this metaphysical context of self reflection
and my need to know who I am and why I exist
that I have asked myself, and am asking you, why do I have two cortex’s?

Science gave me no conclusive answers
other than the very helpful fact that my left cortex processes analytical information
and that my right brain processes intuitive ideas

After forty years of private field research into social structures and human behavior in general
with particular attention paid to our metaphysical beliefs and practices
all of which I applied to some extent to my own life and that of my children

That life-long effort ( I am now almost 70) of trying to grasp our reason for being
much of it spent in Africa,
not wanting to rely on Descartes or any other philosopher or theologian for the answer
I eventually arrived at my own theory on how human conscious has evolved
from one Age of social and spiritual development to the next

I believe that I have arrived at a unique explanation
of how our two brains work and why we need both of them

Instead of simply laying out my theory
I am trying here to get you involved with the process
of seeing it for yourself
so that, hopefully, should at least two of us arrive at the same answer
the endless argument between physics and metaphysics
between accident and design
can find some measure of resolution

The three clues I have presented
provide the outline of how i approached the workings of each brain
Every one of us should have no problem objectively analyzing how daylight consciousness functions
for most of us the subjective nature of night time consciousness will be far more complex
and the inter-relationship between the two brains even more so
but i am hoping you will give it a shot
before I reveal my own conclusions

I meant show me a human model of three brains. Saying there are lots of types of brain is no better than saying all animals have brains.

All three brains mentions
are
I believe
currently inside your head
or should be
got get a cat scan
and see for yourself
