All of the following seem like examples of conduct unbecoming a philosopher:

Does anyone disagree that speaking to others this way is bad and disruptive? Which ones and why?
Does anyone disagree that there should be less of this kind of thing on ILP?
Does everyone want these kind of things to be deleted and/or users posting them warned/banned?

You should doubt that.

RealUn was not banned for one post. He’s been warned over dozens of posts. If anything he hasn’t been banned enough.

Also he posted something from 4chan in order to express what was expressed on 4chan. He is responsible for it. (Post in question is here)

It’s a shame when otherwise interesting topics digress into certain individuals hurling insults at each other, which can go on for quite a long time and completely arrest the conversation for others.

It appears to be the same culprits most of the time. It’s playground behaviour, embarrassing and cringe-worthy to witness. I don’t know why people don’t just disengage or take it somewhere else, sometimes it might as well be 4chan, and that’s a shame because there is little of value to be found there beyond vitriol and prejudice.

Most users are lifeless, soft losers and are ruining this forum. They have no philosophy. They have no life. They deserve the insults expressed. Their activity deserves such ridicule.

I’m one of the few actually contributing philosophy here. It is buried and I am reprimanded for addressing the nonsense.

This is a philosophy forum. It is intended to be a platform promoting philosophy. Most material presented is not philosophy. It is insult. It is gossip. It is complaint. It is MSNBC. It is MTV. It is impulsive, fragmented nonsense. It is bored banter. And it is burying real philosophy.

It’s bad to call people names. Yet you are competing against those same people for survival. You work hard, you earn money to ensure your survival and ensure your comfort while the neighbor struggles to pay bills. Let the neighbor die of starvation, of poverty, of loneliness, of neglect, just don’t call them names.

You are loveless, thoughtless animals. The virtue signaling is hysterical, incredible.

This is a philosophy forum, intended for philosophy. I’ve contributed philosophy, I’ve justified my presence here. Most of you have not. For example, I have produced a highly-coherent, complete foundational ontology. Who else here has produced something similar? Not many.

I’m using this forum for its intended purpose: philosophy. If this isn’t a philosophy forum then change the name, as another thread suggested:

Clean up the forum. Ban/limit Futureone, Ecmandu, MrAuthoritarian, Promethean75, Jupiter123, MagsJ, Starfire87, VictorMcCheese and all other nonphilosophical users. Perhaps then they will discover real hobbies and philosophy can flourish.

Maybe split off the posts if they don’t otherwise add to the discussion, and add them to a dedicated thread, possibly in the Rant House. And make a rule that that in itself serves as a warning. And I suppose there should be a ban at some point in order for the warning to actually be a warning. Temporary bans, getting longer with every repeat offense.

Will the mods allow it? Most likely because they are biased against me and RealUn. Because I am an alt-leftist instead of a normie woke leftist. They are even willing to sacrifice their principles, ignore forum policy and shelter a transphobe, all to punish me for being an alt-leftist and not being socially conformist enough.

I appreciate the historical connection to the ‘Hall of Shame’ threads of old.

I have been splitting off digressions, either to threads in Rant or to private messages between the participants. They usually spiral out pretty fast, so by the time I’ve found them there’s a 15-post exchange to be moved.

This still leaves the problem of what to do when someone does add to the discussion, and directly insults the people they’re talking to in the same post. There’s a board function to hide a post pending and ask the user to edit it, which I use in those cases, but I’m not sure that works as intended.

What principles, and what policy?

Please be specific: “Post X should have been treated like Y, instead it was treated like Z, that violates principle/policy ABC.”

Please don’t assume I know what you’re talking about. I don’t read every post on the site, and I cannot read your mind.

I already flagged 2 of her posts today, long after I made this thread. You didn’t intimidate her at all because she keeps doing it. You are soft on her for some reason.

Like I said, you have a bias against me because I’m politically abnormal. Look at all the quotes you have of me, when you were giving examples of “conduct unbecoming of a philosopher”. Most of the quotes were from me, and only 3 of victor, and 2 of daniel J, even though they have vast, more quantities of bullying and toxicity, and Victor even continues the bullying today. Completely and utterly biased. And most of the “quotes” from me were extremely tame compared to Victor. That’s why I said Victor has feral behavoir, which you even somehow used that quote against me. Even Daniel J is more civilized

And your bias against MagsJ, why you were soft on Daniel J, my guess would be, because MagsJ complains about immigration, which is contrary to the woke agenda. You would assume that you would have banned Victor the transphobe already, because of the woke agenda, but no, I guess immigrants are more important to wokes now than LGBT rights.

I believe the word autist, schizo, right and left should be allowed. Calling someone an autist is equivalent to calling them a leftist. Its the same usage. Its gently pointing out that they have are looking at it from a leftist perspective. Calling someone autistic is gently reminding them that they are looking at it from an autistic perspective.

I don’t believe in woke. banning the word autist and schizo is woke. Its like forbidding calling someone a leftist, or forbidding calling someone a right-winger. Should not Ecmandu be told that he is a schizo, posting schizoposting? Or is philosophy now an insane asylum, where schizophrenics who believe they are the “oldest being in the universe”, that they “control the minds of everyone on the planet”… we have to consider is true, can’t point out they have schizophrenia?

First, you should add her to your ignore and mute lists, which you can do here. If you feel harassed or singled out by her, you can make it so you just never see anything from her anymore. If you aren’t willing to do that, I’d suggest that it isn’t the harassment that’s bothering you.

To your flagged posts:

These posts are crass and written in an inflammatory style, but I’m reluctant to intervene on every post like these, I don’t think anyone wants that.

The second is borderline, and maybe if I knew what “a dropkick” meant I would have decided differently, but I mainly left it because, to the extent that it’s personal, it’s responsive to accusations you made in a previous post, in which you accuse her of insulting you in a post that does not seem to include any direct insults of you – “Stupid fucking Americans and your partisan bullshit” is again borderline in a conversation with an American, but follows “who trains those arseholes” in reference to ICE agents.

These are an example of a case where you have had multiple back-and-forth interactions with the same user, and so you see in her posts something that I can’t see when I review them in isolation. You feel bullied and harassed because of an extended pattern of abuse, but evaluated as individual posts they don’t seem to rise to the level of moderator intervention.

Which is why I encourage you to put someone like that on your ignore and mute lists. You and Victor have exchanged dozens of posts over the past few days, I have not read them all. I have removed several of them following your flags, but from my perspective she has changed her posting style as a result (assuming you’ve continued to flag her worst offenses), since her more recent posts are more on topic and don’t use direct personal insults (again, with the caveat that I don’t know what “a dropkick” is so I’m not sure if it refers to you or to a post or argument).
