That’s fair. I don’t know where you’re from, though I’ve gathered it’s not the US. There are real problems policing language across cultures.
I don’t really know what “dropkick” means, I don’t care if you call me a dropkick. Futurone cares, and while I think he’s being thin-skinned, and I don’t like being weaponized for personal grievances, I also feel like not calling people “a ridiculous, obnoxious person–a milder form of ‘wanker’” is not such a big ask.
That’s reasonable and understandable. Cases where two people just have a beef and are consistently being jerks to each other are some of the hardest to moderate.
For evaluating posts of yours that he’s flagged, I’m really only looking for direct personal insults, and I think you’re getting notifications when I agree. I’ve hidden several of your posts, but if you edit them to remove the direct insults they’ll show up again.
Except for the one mentioned above, which was complicated by my earlier fuckup. If you’re OK with me editing it to remove the insult, I can un-delete it.
Again, understandable. I abhor misogyny and antisemitism. I would not ask you to be nice to anyone who holds beliefs so hateful.
The countervailing consideration is that philosophy must allow for the critical examination of all beliefs. I won’t exclude people for holding beliefs I abhor, nor even for arguing in favor of those beliefs.
However, I admit that that distinction is not a clean one. Beliefs like misogyny, racism, antisemitism, etc. are often tantamount to direct insults of groups rather than individuals. And I think it’s fair to prohibit such insults.
But then again, as discussed above, what counts as insulting is not an objective determination. Certain empirical facts are uncomfortable, and arguing in favor of them can be insulting.
I don’t think this is an easy question. I admit that my choice to police how ideas are discussed while allowing abhorrent and harmful ideas to be discussed is not obviously the correct choice, but I think it’s defensible. And even if it is correct, the implementation leaves much to be desired.
I try and fail again and gain, I will keep trying and hope to fail better.
How bout we “drop” the dropkick thing and discuss the far more vile things she’s posted?

No offense but I don’t like one-month or one-week old Users coming to the forum dictating to 20-year+ Users, Mods, Admins, etc. how to conduct ourselves. Magsj has been a Moderator on this forum, and very loyal. I was also brash and arrogant against “Non-philosophical” members back in my hayday as well. But, the fact of the matter is, there are very overflowing Producers and Consumers of Philosophy. It’s fine to be both. And it’s fine to interact and socialize with both.
That said, let your own works and contributions stand the testament of time, and let everybody else be the judge of your quality and merit.
Daniel, in case you’re wondering about lack of interest and response to your works and threads–those topic matters have been extensively debated 5, 10, even 20 years ago. The Veterans around here have already been through the rigamaroo of Existence Exists.
