Society has this idealized notion of equality existing by the elaborate display of it’s institutions particularly it’s market and education sector.
Let’s discuss them in this thread.
How does society describe equality within Western industrial societies? Equal opportunity.
Equal opportunity is a very interesting word considering how inequal society really its. It is quite a famous catch phrase if you will.
How does society describe equal opportunity? Basically like this ametur dialectic below:
Society: We have “progressed” in that we have finally given equal opportunity to everyone in order to live self fulfilling lives of civility.
Cynic: That doesn’t seem to make much sense to me.
Society: Why do you say that?
Cynic: On the one hand you say there exists equal opportunity for all people yet you construct standardizations to be met where if someone falls short of those standardizations they are usually cast aside from constructive opportunities to mere servitude at other people’s disposal.
And given the level of survival you can’t escape from competition and competition is anything but equal.
Society: Everyone is given a equal chance.
Cynic: No they aren’t. Educational institutions act in judgement through intellectual prejudice where only those who meet their standards are allowed to live happy healthy lives in comparison to those who fall short of such judgements who are cast away into servitude.
Society: I don’t like you. This conversation is over. Everybody is given a equal chance, period!
My dilemma of this thread goes as the following:
-
Competition guarantees inequality.
-
You can’t have equality while having intellectual prejudices and institutional standardizations for people to be judged from.
-
Equal opportunity is mindless propaganda. There is no equal opportunity.
-
Society in all actuality knows that a great deal of people will fall short of intellectual prejudices and institutional standardizations where these same people casted aside will spend a great deal of their lives in servitude of other people.
-
Society can play the propaganda coin by showing a handful of people making it from the bottom but it is quite funny how society never illustrates a great deal of situations in public centered around in contrast where a great deal of people never make it out of the bottom that stay in poverty indefinately.
