People buy fast cars to swirve in and out of traffic at high speeds only to arrive at the same red-light as everyone else.
Everything arrives to nothing, thus no matter what anyone or anything does everyone and everything arrives back to the same place as everyone and everything else. Nothing. Death.
adrenaline produces a felling of near euphoria, aka its a rush. why is anything fun? because initially i’m curious, if my curiosity is strong enough i decide to try something, when i try something i experiance the sensation involved in the action i’m partaking in, and decide during/afterward whether or not i like it. life is an experiment in experiance.
all of our thoughts are subjective. perception/sensations are formed when external objects come in range/focus. so sensation/perception , while awake,
are limited by the minds capacity for objective discovery. our senses have a range and we can only percieve things which come into our personal range. that takes nothing away from the objective existance of the external world, so all is not subjective.
Murdoc, I’m glad you said it before I did. I was going to post it, but thought it too rude. All thoroughgoing nihilism, including yours here, is simply the expression of a God complex. The minute you drop your own ego (not that this is strictly possible) you will get over this pout. And maybe have a little fun. Who knows?
I beg to differ, there ARE people better than other people. Take running for example, there are plenty of runners better than me.
And I’ll tell it to you straight it IS pleasurable to know you can beat someone at something. People are not equal, some people are more skillful than others.
i believe london will be there when i get off the plane. i also believe there will be other people there. if i spit in a persons general direction there will be a reaction from them. i react to things but things also react to me. therefore if i’m real, everything i see is really happening. even dreams really happen.
The fittest are more likely to survive. But surviving isn’t always right, then, is it?
So…the point of this thread is that there is no metaphysical justification for hierarchies, values, good, bad, or even identity? Ok…maybe. How important is metaphysical justification to us? The reality is that we can’t drop the ego; we’ll always be stuck in this subjective point of view and interaction, and we’ll always be very much interested in our own selves simply because of the bias that comes with being ourselves.
In the context of our reality, there are goals, failures, pains, emotions, beginnings, ends, etc.; there may be no better and worse metaphysically, but there certainly is if you apply your own goal. As thesun1 said; if you want to win a race, then you can be better or worse at winning a race. While there may be no ultimate justification for wanting to win the race, he does anyway, so better and worse do exist for him.
