Anecdotal “evidence” (ungrounded assertions) followed by an “innocuous” putting into question of your interlocutor’s whole political credibility… No, I know nothing about politics, Masg! I wonder, though: why would someone with ideals need to be paid to protest for those ideals?..
.
Clueless^..
No need for any further exchanges.
Same reason people are paid for jury duty? Because they took time off work to be there?
Just trying to steel man the situation generously here. Not saying anyone was or was not paid to protest.
The title of this topic makes me happy. That is all.
The mods here are intent on making this place become a wildwest.
For example if someone posts a political opinion such as “9/11 was done by Republicans”, then normies feel entitled to personal insults such as wishing pain, suffering and celibacy on you. The mods want this forum to become a public cesspool of toxic normies.
I believe the mods intent is “free speech”, but such policies actually achieve the opposite slowly, because the aggressive normies cause a chilling of speech, and then people to try to avoid confrontations with the normies by censoring themselves. Its a form of coersion that normies use to get people to obey the mainstream narrative.
Group-think, as a genetic impulse of herd creatures, is a very, very powerful force of Nature.
In most ways, if not everyway, it is fundamentally opposed to Philosophy and the project of Philosophy, because of the ‘negativity’ and Doubt that Philosophy requires to operate. Philosophy is Anti-Authoritarian; it questions Authority. It doubts Authority. It doubts Leftist Statism. It doubts Rightist Abrahamism and the Jewish (interpretation of) God YHWH. It doubts Everything.
It should doubt Everything. Doubt everything, and then analyze whatever is leftover. What resists Doubt the most? What beliefs are people and individuals most certain of, if anything at all?
To provide some additional context for your points, you’re responding to a post complaining about being “chastised” for repeatedly calling another user a prick, loser, etc. Direct insults should be prohibited, and if you flag them when you see them it is much more likely that they will be addressed. But it’s unpopular to intervene in even the clearest cases, so there is a real cost on the other side that means ambiguous cases can be better left alone.
Moderation sucks for everyone (including the mods), and it is not an unalloyed good. Bright-line rules like “don’t post pictures without providing context in your own words” are its best form. Vague-but-still-enforceable rules like “don’t personally insult people” are next best, but people feel justified when they insult someone, and will be indignant that they’re being punished for calling a spade a spade – especially when a moderator responds promptly, and they’re still in the throes of emotion.
Most of ILP looking like a wild west is that most posts aren’t read by any moderator, because there are ~2 active moderators and more posts-per-day than we could possibly read. I can’t speak for @Flannel_Jesus, but I read every post that’s flagged, and I intervene based on about 3/4 of flagged posts (usually by hiding the post and asking the user to edit it).
My post had nothing to do with her at all and she went out of her way to derail the topic, when I wasn’t even talking to her at all.
Second, there is a difference between “insults above the belt” and “insults below the belt”. I would never tell a gay that I was glad they got aids, because I am a good person. I was actually told I was a good person by customer service, who complained to me about how most people are toxic to them, and I was one of the only good people they met.
Third, the person I am complaining about, rarely debates fair, like in a debate room setup, but “debates” people only by insulting them and using emotional diarrhea, they also never seem to compromise on any issue or try to learn or listen to other’s perspectives.
.
Carleas is talking about me in this instance, not Victor.. I would hazard. ![]()
.
I can understand your confusion because Victor goes around verbally abusing many here on the boards, without any reprisals.
Yeah, surely that’s not what she means. Those would be people having the motive and the opportunity to protest, but just not the means. But surely she means that paid protesters are motivated by their payment…
Tone is everything. A dry or overly sarcastic delivery can be misread as a genuine insult and defeat the purpose of moderation.
What about you spreading insane conspiracy theories and calling those who object ‘normies’ (a particularly offensive insult used by incel nerds to make themselves feel superior to everyone else). You write the most offensive shit imaginable then demand to be treated with kid gloves. Pathetic.

..their transparency is very evident, and even when called out countless times, their straw-man baiting trolling arguments continue.. and then they ask why won’t you debate them.

Its a game that they play.. yawn ![]()

..guys’ a joker.
and they’re still in the throes of emotion.
..and a misogynist [often uses an ‘am I emotional’‘ argument against me].
Don’t bother respond.. that time has long passed.
.
Mods trolling the members who are right-of-centre.. not a good look.
..and a misogynist [often uses an ‘am I emotional’‘ argument against me].
Because I am a creature of emotion, I find that I can’t let this go.
This is false, and if it is not you should demonstrate otherwise by reference to a specific post.
It’s important to me that this is false, not only because I don’t want to be falsely defamed as a misogynist, but because I do not want to be a misogynist: if I am regularly accusing one of the few women on ILP of being “emotional”, I too would be concerned. So I looked through every post I’ve ever made that mentioned emotion, and I believe this is the only thread in which I’ve said anything about emotion in a post colorably related to you (or, as far as I can tell, any other woman on ILP).
I do not “often” accuse you of being emotional. I have done so at most once.
But I also did not intend to specifically accuse you of being emotional in this thread, though in retrospect I agree that it reads that way in context, and I apologize. That characterization was not meant to dismiss you or your positions, but to describe and explain a more general disconnect between what ILP’s users (most of whom are male) say they want, and how they react when those same standards are applied to them.
Yet after you had a screaming tantrum demanding your account be shut down and they complied with your demand you then begged to be reinstated to which they also granted your wish. Talk about ungrateful
.
..after you had a screaming tantrum demanding your account be shut down..
Why do you think you know what my emotional state was at that time?
p.s. why do you come across like you are perpetually angry? [see how I asked, not presumed]
.
..you then begged to be reinstated to which they also granted your wish.
I begged?
Do you always magnify everything to gargantuan-proportions in your mind, making mountains out of molehills?
Oh, da drama! ![]()

Talk about ungrateful
That is your feeling, not mine.. you can do/feel as you please but don’t transfer your feelings about ‘anything’ onto me.
You’re no slayer, dear..
Oh please, you started a whole thread demanding that your account be closed. If that wasn’t dramatic then I don’t know what is ![]()
.
Dire moderation, dear.. you may like wading in a cesspool, others don’t!
Standards, dear..

Anything else?
