Actually, fuse, I was not. I responded to a condescension here, by volchok, pretty matter of factly. Of course, nobody is perfect—and I’m certainly not. I think it’s clear though, when I am snarky, it has usually been earned. Apparently, that’s not true for you.
You seem that way in general to me, not specifically in this thread. Here you were pretty matter of fact, I agree. And yeah, I can be a jerk sometimes, but I sort of like everyone I spoke badly of there in different ways and that was half the point.
well that’s disappointing, i could use my fair share of criticism. we should all be so lucky for honest feedback!
Ty, I made it pretty clear to you that the reason I thought you received this short time-out was because you posted 10 threads about the same topic (I can’t believe you think “gay” is a slanderous word btw!) and then I said, (coming from a guy who has been banned from three of the biggest boards on the web and had all their posts deleted on two of them - which is unheard of for the internet!) that 24 hours was a joke. I hope you take this to heart.
The latter two banned me without warning and deleted all threads that I had been involved in, as if I had never registered. You think you have any clue what censorship is ty? C’mon man. My bannings usually occurred before I could even explain my thesis… you know why? because what I’m saying about sexual selection is true, and either a woman in denial bans me for saying it, or a man wishing to maintain his sexual choice bans me… do you have ANY idea how rare it is for all your threads to be deleted on a discussion forum TY.
You are talking to a man who knows censorship, and what you’re talking about… it’s a joke. I never spammed the same topic like you did.
ES was permanently banned after 1 week of membership. Was he warned? Was he banned for a short period if his offense was too extreme to be handled by a mere warning?
It doesn’t seem that way.
It appears to me that there is no process of justice here. There is no set of rules applied consistently across forums and adhered to by the moderators. It’s administration by whim.
The only recompense: janus the two faced God, the fearless, the true existentialist at once naive and sinister, both simple and complex, the fearful but brave, your best friend and worst enemy, …
Beyond good and evil, and something else creeps in during the horrendous fall, a new strength, due to the everlasting slide of loss,
It is and it isn’t
It’s always true to form, and it is: where the power comes from.
Do not frail, that the fabric is made of: the full emptiness inside, the outside, it’s so hard to be straight nowadays, but you must take it.
We all need it, this downward dissolution, the very bottom, where even the least sigh, as a gentle feather drifts remind you of the humility of all bravura.
Taste the kernel of death in inside of the loneliest,it is filled with pure white light!
I think occasionally it’s been earned. I think often enough you’re just being over-aggressive and insulting when you could do better to just keep cool. From what I’ve seen, you’ve often gone into a fairly unheated conversation and initiated an environment of hostility that wasn’t there before. You really could do to keep your cool a bit more, and to be more respectful.
As a generally rule, ‘It’s ok if I’m a dick because you’re a dick too’ is an attitude that’s going to harm you more than help you.
I think you do bring hostility where there is none, frequently. I’m sure I do it sometimes too, and I hope to getter better – even if you don’t get better (my dickishness is not justified by yours).
But I hope you get better too.
Even if ‘let’s all be dicks to each other’ was some super awesome strategy that results in great wealth, fun, and sex, it STILL wouldn’t obligate any given small community (internet or otherwise) to model itself on that paradigm. 90% of the useful function of the internet goes down the drain if people aren’t free to set up communities with their own rule sets.
People taking jabs at one another is quite common on most discussion forums, including ILP. I’ve come to expect it. In my mind, it’s like Fight Club. You go there, not only expecting to get hit, but eager to get hit. And when someone hits you, you wear the bruises like a badge of honor. It’s like a sign of affection, it’s the guy telling you “you belong right in here. I like you.” And of course, you want to share the love, you want to give back. So you hit other people in return. It would be an insult if you didn’t hit or get hit.
That’s the way I see it. If some are too sensitive to take the brutality, I say either this isn’t the place for you or you haven’t been around long enough to recognize the deep love that underlies the superficial hate.
I asked Ty to stay away from my threads, not to stay away from ILP. Despite his bluster, he appears thin-skinned. There is a old Arabian proverb that goes–If a man calls you an ass, ignore him. If two men call you an ass, ignore them. If three men call you an ass, go out and buy a pack saddle.
I recognize the futility of pointing this out but what the hell:
Wiki: Most commonly, nihilism is presented in the form of existential nihilism, which argues that life is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value. Moral nihilists assert that morality does not inherently exist, and that any established moral values are abstractly contrived.
There are thus existential nihilists [like me] who suggest that sans God there is no inherent, essential, objective etc. meaning one can turn to with respect to conflicting value judgments. But this is a point of view that can lead to either despair or to a sense of liberation. But that will often depend far more on the particular set of material circumstances you find yourself in.
But there are lots of things that do seem open to “objective meaning”.
The difficulty I have with folks like Ty is that they speak of their own particular brand of nihilism as though it was the only rational [or the most rational] manner in which to defend it.
People still don’t get this right. There are several types of nihilism and putting all of it in the same bag is a mistake.
You went to the trouble of checking the wikipedia page for nihilism but I’m guessing you didn’t even scroll down otherwise you would have seen the following:
.1 Metaphysical nihilism
1.2 Epistemological nihilism
1.3 Mereological nihilism
1.4 Existential nihilism
1.5 Moral nihilism
1.6 Political nihilism
