Well, obviously Christians think a literal guy was literally crucified. If some other non-Christians take it to being merely a symbol, that’s neither here nor there. But the specifics of nails through the hands, nails through the wrists, tied or not, platform for the feet or not, wooden seat or not, etc, have no religious significance and aren’t expressly stated in the BIble, so even a biblical literalist isn’t going to have much of an issue here.
Whatever Uccisore, you just linked to the same thing. What do two slashes on the top have to do with the crucifixion? And what does the slash on the bottom have to do with the crucifixion? The debate at hand here is the palms.
Ok that’s fine, the top part was the INRI part, but there is no reason to have a plank as a footrest, we know that through the foresnsics of ALL types of crosses… nails through the heel bones could support the lower body as long as the upper body was tied at the wrists… it is often speculated that both heels were nailed at the same time together, overlapping each other. They even have some archeological evidence to support this. To make a crossbeam, makes it MORE likely that when they got their hands free, they could just fall off the cross entirely, so I’m not sure what this post has to do with what I’m talking about with respect to forensic science.
19So when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20And when He had said this, He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23“If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”
24But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
26After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” 27Then He said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” 28Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” 29Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”
Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me."
Has anyone ever played with any online language translators? Or notice that what takes one word to say in one language will take a couple or more words in another. And these complicated programs can still get it wrong with these modern languages.
Better still, does anyone know multiple languages. I once sat for 16 hours re-translating a page document into English after the person used google translate. Had to sit one on one with the person, talking and reading in both languages, in order to get the meaning correct. It was a frustrating process but the person was eventually satisfied with the “meaning” of the translation. The final page had very few similarities with the Google translate version. Language is expressive of meaning and not mechanically precise. If we lose sight of the meaning we have lost sight of language.
