Since the old topic I made here was closed, I wish to reiterate my request that you add a basic post signature function. Nothing extensive, nothing too fancy. Just a way to add a bit more uniqueness and personality to this place, like it used to (always did) have.
To go all in I will example by own request, my manually posting my own signatures from now on. Albeit without a proper format from the site itself, it looks a bit …off. Still. You can fix that. Just admit the people want the OPTION (not required) to add a personal touch at the end of their posts. Hell, you can even default to post signatures being hidden, so no one sees them unless they manually enable the function. I would be just fine with that.
Seriously, how could you object to that? Whose with me? Bring back post signatures. This place had way more personality back in the day. Let’s get closer back to that again
Note: signatures on posts never hurt anyone. Don’t hate.
I think so? Pretty sure this is a synecdoche for sex.
Yes. See Descartes.
I think this is an illusion. I’m confused by the present in ways I wasn’t confused about the past, but the way I was confused about the past in the past felt a lot like the way I’m confused about the present now.
Yeah, I already made some new posts and completely forgot to add the manual signature I made. What a hassle. And you’re probably right, no one here would even give a shit anyway. Thanks for proving a point about how shallow this place has become. I won’t bother anymore.
Ecmandu, you’re actually a kind of counterpoint to my position here: You say a lot of the same stuff, it’s often unrelated to the topic at hand, and you could put all that in a signature so you could have the body of your posts be on-topic.
I don’t think it would actually work for you, because you see all the stuff you repeat in every post as related to every topic.
But for someone who just wants to say, “Speaking as a father/liberal/veteran/Heiddegerian…” as a preface to every post, a signature could do that.
Go to https://www.ilovephilosophy.com/my/preferences/account and set a custom status. An emoji will appear beside your username, and when you mouseover the emoji your custom status pops up. You can pick the emoji you want by clicking on the smilie next to the text input box.
