So, anyone into crappy love songs that were popular? I am!
It should be noted I enjoy train wrecks and terribly bad movies/songs/et al.
In this thread, please adhere to these rules:
Please state whether or not you are into crappy love songs.
If so, please state ONE (and only one) name of a song AND artist.
Please include SOME (not all) sample lyrics.
Include some PLAUSIBLE reason that it could apply philisophically.
I like “Love Hurts” by Nazareth.
Lyrics include:
Man that’s awfully good! See, the song is philisophically stating that love is a lie and that it is actually BAD and if you ignore this you will fall in love, thus you will be hurt. Love = hurt.
I hate the way you act
And I hate the way you smell
I hate the way you look, girl
'Cus you just look like hell
Chorus:
You make me sick! Way-oh, Way-oh, Way-oh
You make me sick! You really stink, girl
You make me sick! Way-oh, Way-oh, Way-oh
You make me sick!
(Tuba Solo)
…But I luuuuv you
I hate your polyester pantsuits
And your greasy hair,
Ant that stuff between your braces
And you hairy derriere
Chorus
(Guitar Solo)
When I got you in my backseat
And I tried to make my move
I had to roll down all the windows
To keep my face from turning blue
Chorus
(Tuba Solo)
*As printed in the book Billy and the Boingers Bootleg from 1987.
“When does a flame not burn you” - when you’re not touching it.
But do you really think love is painful? Then why do people go for such things if supposedly we naturally avoid pain?
Lyrics include:
Baby I want you! Like the roseswant the rain!
You know I need you! Like a poet needs the pain!
And I would give anything! My blood my love my life
If you were in these arms tonight!
I’d hold you, I’d need you, I’d get down on my knees for you
And make everything alright, If you were in these arms
Note: proof the Bon Jovi has bisexual???: on his knees. Ha Ha! [this is a joke]
We stared at the sun and we made a promise
A promise this world would never blind us
And these are our words, our words were our songs
Our songs are our prayers these prayers keep me strong
It’s what I believe, if you were in these arms!
So, philisophically, Bon Jovi believes that it is okay to need a woman like a poet need pain, thus women are a pain. Furthermore, he beleives that promise = words = songs = prayers… hmmm… interesting.
“When I get older, losing my hair [still flourishing thank God and all his little cherubim] many years from now will you still be sending me a valentine birthday greeting, bottle of wine [screw that - Jack please] If I’d been out till quarter to three [Don’t do that as much as I used to - honest] would you lock the door Will you still need me Will you still feed me [through a tube if need be] When I’m sixty-four”
Philosophical content - the co-relation of physical age and marital status to philosophical tendancy… [stretching]
Sorry Thirst, I know how you feel about the Beatles re: sucking habits…
See, I thought I was taking it a bit far with the bisexual joke!
Here’s another Bon Jovi crappy favorite “Bed of Roses”:
When you close your eyes know I’ll be thinking about you
While my mistress she calls me to stand in her spotlight again
Tonite I won’t be alone but you know that don’t mean I’m not lonely
I’ve got nothing to prove for it’s you that I’d die to defend
I want to lay you down on a bed of roses
For tonite I sleep on a bed on nails
I want to be just as close as
the Holy Ghost is
And lay you down
on bed of roses
My favorite part is when Bon Jovi tries to rhyme “Just as close as, the Holy Ghost is”… friggin hilarious.
Philosophically you can see that he is a religious man that thinks the Holy Ghost was really close with The Virgin Mary…
This song reminds me of a few past relationships. What more could I add to that statement?
“By Your Side” by Sade
When I listen to this song, I can picture myself in the perfect relationship. I know this might sound cheesy, but it’s true!
“Over and Over” by Nelly (with Tim McGraw)
A very dear friend of mine died in 2000. We had an interesting relationship. I believe we both loved each other, but it was one of those relationships that wouldn’t have been good for the long haul.
We had had fights in the past, but we would spend considerable time apart and reconnect months later.
Before he was killed in a motorcycle accident, we hadn’t been on speaking terms. However, like any of our other disagreements, a little time spent apart would have mended the pain.
This song reminds me that we’ll never have the opportunity to take care of the problem. I sometimes regret not wanting to speak with him over the phone a few months before he was killed. He knew I was still upset and said that he’d call me again in the near future.
Sorry, didn’t mean to ramble on, but this topic has me oddly nostalgic about my past relationships.
Gotta take a little time
A little time to think things over
I better read between the lines
In case I need it when I’m older…
This mountain I must climb
Feels like a world upon my shoulders
Through the clouds I see love shine…
It keeps me warm as life grows colder
In my life there’s been heartache and pain
and I don’t know if I can face it again
Can’t stop now, I’ve traveled too far
To change this lonely life…
I want to know what love is
I want you to show me
I want to feel what love is
I know you can show me…
THE PHILOSOPHY? We know what love is when it is given to us.
They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day
From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one
She stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
That grew down the river, all bloody and wild
When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My trembling subsided in his sure embrace
He would be my first man, and with a careful hand
He wiped at the tears that ran down my face
They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day
On the second day I brought her a flower
She was more beautiful than any woman I’d seen
I said, “Do you know where the wild roses grow
So sweet and scarlet and free?”
On the second day he came with a single red rose
Said: “Will you give me your loss and your sorrow”
I nodded my head, as I lay on the bed
He said, “If I show you the roses, will you follow?”
They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day
On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he knelt (stood smiling) above me with a rock in his fist
On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow
And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
And I kissed her goodbye, said, “All beauty must die”
And lent down and planted a rose between her teeth
They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day
Where the wild roses grow, Nick Cave and Kylie Mynogue
Don’t know about you, But I, Can’t get Kylie outta my head…
Diminutive in stature, delicious in hotpants, a svelte, silky swooner of mindless melody. When is her car going to break down on my doorstep…?
One dream I constantly thank my subconscious for: Driving in a tiny car (with the Anthill-mob for some reason), over the scenic hills and valleys of a gigantic Kylie’s naked form… Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou.
This one is dedicated to the sudden (perceived?) exodus of ILP members:
When I look into your eyes I can see a love restrained
But darling when I hold you don’t you know I feel the same
‘Cause nothin’ lasts forever and we both know hearts can change
And it’s hard to hold a candle in the cold November rain
We’ve been through this such a long long time just tryin’ to kill the pain
But lovers always come and lovers always go and no one’s really sure who’s lettin’ go today, walking away
If we could take the time to lay it on the line
I could rest my head just knowin’ that you were mine, all mine
So if you want to love me then darlin’ don’t refrain
Or I’ll just end up walkin’ Causing ILP members pain.
love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are
all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes
love, I don’t like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive
and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
the heat I see in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
