Energy is basically an accounting system. Don’t believe me? Look at your bill from the power company. They charge you by the kilowatt-hour. Probably around 15 cents per 1 kilowatt-hour, or you can operate a 100 watt light bulb for 10 hours for 15 cents.
But your electric heater that is 10,000 watts costs $1.50 to run per hour. Add it all up and that is the TOTAL ENERGY you used for the month, and you can’t convert that energy back into mass.
Not possible.
Space cannot be filled with ANY geometric form other than cubes. And the distance across a cube depends on the angle.
Energy - just like affectance - is the ability to cause change. It is an ability - not a particle.
But that ability can be - and is - often traffic jammed into tight bundles struggling to get to work - but can’t.
Because the light is propagating ability to work or cause change. When that propagation of affect runs into a traffic jam - a mass particle - it has much more of a task to change. It slows for the exact same reason a speeding car must slow in a traffic jam - there are other affects that have to be compensated as they are encountered.
Calling it EMR as if that was some magic spell does nothing. Electromagnetic radiation has a mechanism.
That mechanism operates as a function of electrons. That is why the electro in electromagnetic, and even magnetism is a function of electrons.
Light is a propagation of electronic excitation. That is what radiation in this case means, a radiance of excitation of electrons. The electrons never touch, even the inner structure of an atom is mostly not particular, what you call massive. The excitation moves through the atomic matter that is energy. It does this with few atoms in between as easy as with many. When one is there, the elctron has to be operated, and so forth, and this operation constitutes the travel, by which the speed is measured.
That is why the equivalence exists and Einstein was able to find it.
If you break an atom apart, the mass becomes outward motion. It doesn’t move, it disappears, and outward motion takes its place. Energy.
Part of the mass, you get it.
It is not an ability, it is a measure of how much work was done over a duration of time. It is work that has already been done, just like it is a measure of how much work it took to run that light bulb for 10 hours.
The power company doesn’t charge you for how much energy they think you might use for the month, they charge you for how much energy you actually already used for the past month. It is how much you used, not how much you have the ability to use.
Energy is a calculated total of how much work was done over a given duration of time.
There has to be a potential for work to happen. A spent elastic band cannot stretch, a fresh one can.
The potential is the voltage. Your outlet always has the potential of 120 volts, but if you don’t plug anything into that outlet you do no work and therefore your energy consumption is zero.
Imortantly, the mass energy continuity is unbroken. This continuity, mass/energy, is atomic matter that constitutes space.
Energy consumption. The energy has to be there to be consumed.
If you do plug it in, the voltage is spent, and no longer there. It cannot be used to plug something else unless fresh volts are introduced.
The density is of mass, quantity of mass per unit of space. What in that space does not include mass includes energy. By defiunition, because for it to be able to be filled with mass there has to be the potential for mass to move in, and this potential constitutes energy.
At the atomic level, the fastest any energy can change is as light. That is, a relationship between massive electrons in different massive atoms whereby one changes the properties of the other.
Voltage is not energy. The only thing present at your outlet is 120 volts. There is no current flowing and so there is no work being done.
Plug a 120 Ohm load into that outlet and that 120 Ohm load is drawing 1 Amp. The power is 120 volts x 1 Amp = 120 Watts. That says nothing of how much time that power was being consumed. Factor in time and you have energy. 120 Watts x 4 hours is 480 Watt-Hours of energy.
This isn’t even debatable it is a rock solid fact!
If you don’t want to call it energy, find something to call it, because it is there. There is a difference between something with volts and something without, that difference is positive, there is something there with presence.
Independent of what happens with the volts, whether they remain unconsumed or change into a hair dryer blowing.
What is there? The only thing there is a voltage potential of 120 volts. There is no current flowing and there is no work being done.
Ever heard of Ohms law?
So that, at least is verifiably there.
Some things don’t have that potential.
There thus is something there.
Ohms law:
Volts / Ohms = Amps
Amps x Ohms = Volts
Volts / Amps = Ohms
Amps x Volts = Watts
Watts x Time = Energy
