The Age of Reason

The Age of Reason shall arrive when Christianity and other out-dated religions lose their hold over the masses, when we see ourselves for the human animals we are. Christianity will die and the apocalypse shall occur. Hell on earth will appear as undeniable truth to the hearts and minds.

The Age of Reason shall arrive under a reform of the education system which serves to enlighten the children of the masses about the hypocrisy of their parents.

The Age of Reason shall arrive when reason cuts through the lies of history and our individual selves to realize that the world that we live in is our own to name and direct, arbitrarily in cooperation or conflict with one another.

Well, The Age of Reason will never get here then. Unless you want to cut half your brain and throw it away.

The part of our brain that allows us to think in the abstract is the same part that believe in religion.

When will this age of reason arrive? It has been 3000 yrs and still there is nothing.

I would have thought it would arrive when science proves something about existance that at least in some way religion and atheists had been saying all along.

Didn’t Stalin and Mao among others already try that?

Religion/philosophy is only half of it. We have to be able to apply reason to our everyday lives, IOW be able to put emotion in its place and think.

We have tyrants committing genocide and slavery, and in the “civilized” world we’re gradually exchanging the religion of faith in the Church for the religion of faith in the State which in the 20th demonstrated much greater power for destruction than the church or any individual two-bit tyrants.

The Age of Reason must influence all facets of our lives, while at the same time using our emotions to follow that influence.

You forgot the irritation of political ideologies in your list of Bad Things, RU …

Living in a dream world mate. The future will never occur like this.

Firstly people wont relinquish religion, wether they are right or not.

Secondly Parents would never give their children up to be educated to hate them. If they were it would not be an age of reason but an age of slavery

Your third paragraph contradicts itself

Politics is stupid!

Seriously though, I hadn’t considered it–I believe it would arrive after-the-fact.

Christianity and other religions are like organisms. They survive through the ages by adapting to the changing times and finding new niches in order to hold onto their longevity just a little longer. I don’t think there’ll ever be a time when Christianity or any of today’s religions will completely perish. Change, maybe - but never perish.

yes

lets hope we don’t get to the apocalypse vision however.

although in some ways it wouldn’t surprise me

generally yes

but not all parents are hypocrits

 this is the key

although individuality is vital for moving forward and not stagnating as a being . it is the individual(s) that thinks outside the box that can cause change

yes , or more probable a combination of both cooperation and conflict in verying degrees over time

but it is under OUR , HUMANITIES , direction for a change

Most people assume equilibrium will come out of thought but many fail to recognize that equilibrium can come out of total silence and impulse.

Good point; I relate silence and impulse to thoughts too though. Maybe there’s a distinction that should be made.

All I know is that when I am away from the hustle of civilization out in the woods for many days overnight thoughts disappear from mind altogether.

( Or atleast the conventional description of thoughts anyways.)

That is something worth thinking about.

so your thoughts are more primative , inotherwords

the age of reason will only come about when emotion is balanced with objectivity

That depends, what kind of “objectivity” are you talking about?

The fact that religious views originate genetically through our psychology makes your vision seem like a pipe dream.

Given this, your prediction is akin to saying “In the future, humans will mate only for reproductive purposes and not for pleasure”; ie. improbable and irrational since it goes against humans’ natural inclinations.

the kind of objectivity I’m talking about is when ones sees ones mistake(s) and admits them .

and does so without the fear of damage to ones ego . or the self
