Mary, to your knowledge, or from your perspective, Biblically speaking, did God create the heavens and earth out of nothing? What are your thoughts on this? It does not explicitly state anywhere in the Bible that God created from nothing.
Additionally if God is present during creation, or before creation, God obviously is something, so nothing would not be prior to creation either.
No one has called me Mary since high school. My name is Maryann. To answer your question I have to get into time. It is on topic, but it creeps me out every time I try to complete the thought. I just wanna put it simply, but it always ends up getting more complicated. There are steps up to it that I need to complete first, I think. I have said parts of it so many different ways (some of that is all over this board), but it is never just right/whole (a correct framing relative to the available theories). I think part of it might be that I lack fluency in the relevant language from math, physics, chemistry, etc.

Yes, things can become quite complicated. Must they?
I’m approaching it purely from the Biblical perspective. Without delving into science, chemistry, mathematics, etcetera.
Biblically God is declared eternal (Isaiah 57:15). Eternal indicates no beginning and no end.
That God always is implicitly acknowledges nothingness never was. If there is something, God, there is not nothing. That alone reveals God did not create from nothing because God would be eternally. God is not nothing.
Further the entire creation-from-nothing or creation ex nihilo claim is a forced theological interpretation. Nowhere in the Bible is it explicitly stated that God created from nothing.
Combine that with New Testament Scripture: “For with God nothing shall be impossible” Luke 1:37 …and the idea becomes clear.
While more intensive examination would certainly be fascinating the central ideas seem direct enough to glean understanding.
