Lots of speculation about “back in the day”. I remember back in the day when those in your neighbourhood helped you out and I new most people in my street. I remember back in the day that most people did not need to lock their doors.
Aggregated assault, rape and theft stats (rates per 100000 and not numbers) have sky rocketed. US has the highest rate of incarceration in the developed world.
You measure advancement by technology. I measure it by perceptions of quality of life and by perceptions of well being.
Because religious persecution was heavier back then. Pillaging was huge. The vikings, Mongolians, etc.
There was a lot of war of which was brutal. Limbs being chopped off, bleeding to death, infections, capturing/raping that comes with pillaging. Tortured captives.
Rome smiled at war and fighting. Gladiator/killing for entertainment?
When I watch TV and there is something boring on TV I simply use the remote to change channels.
I find there are plenty of other interesting shows to entertain me.
I often like to watch reruns of I Dream of Jeannie.
I find this thread interesting. It is not boring at all. I am content in what I am doing.
