Okay, Erdogan is experiencing a coup… if still alive. He he somehow survives this, won’t be the last.
Last year, he list parliamentary elections… and then voided the elections, and started a civil war on ethnic Kurds who didn’t support him, and has been bombing half of Turkey in the name if a made up Kurdish rebel group that never existed prior, and have roots literally nowhere.
He got reelected after suppressing the Kurdish vote, and ISIS turned their backs on him. US had to embed special forces in Kurdish Syria to protect them from random bombings.
Turkey periodically has coups, this isn’t going to effect their NATO standings at all… Erdogan was turning into a radical dictator, launched pogroms against moderates, and committed crimes against humanity on his own people, and allied with a terrorist state, ISIS, against his countries best interests, and those of his long term alliances.
Good riddance, and hope his stupid palace gets torn down. If he lives, Fuck You Erdogan. I will laugh when they do finally kill you, for all you have done to undermine America’s most important NATO ally, the country of Turkey. You turned the place into a shithole with your policies, for your political gain. It is a sad day when someone like me and Chomsky see you equally as a backwards villian.
Erdogan still controls the The Hurriyet Daily News… it used to be very critical of Erdogan till recently when it’s criticisms fell silent, government minders and arrests of the media.
They won’t switch over till someone us confident enough the military is winning to walk up on the minder, and wack him in the back of the head with a pipe. Gonna keep updates through the night, pray this succeeds.
He built the largest (illegal, Turkey’s supreme court ruled it illegal) presidential palace in the world, and only defence it could muster was one fucking car! Squish!
Dogan News’ English page hasn’t registered this is even happening, but CNN is getting footage from it in Turkey suggesting it is freely operating once again.
I just hope they pull this off… no need for a renegade column to support Erdogan’s tyrannical state.
If anyone wants to understand why I’m so happy, search thus website for Coup & Turkey.
This article includes a large military buildup near Izmir earlier today (far away from Istanbul and Ankara).
We have a formal forum member, I believe his name is Tab, who is or was living there. I believe if I recall correctly, Iabigious is friends with him. I’m not lifting my ban, but thought he should know to contact him if he still lives there. It us a Oort city, so he won’t starve.
What the he’ll is up with the Guardian, I’ve been saying this for a while, anyone who paid attention knew it would eventually happen. I’m not that smart dammit.
Nobody in NATO rank general or higher is going to be surprised by this. Its absolute bullshit to say we all didn’t have contingency plans in place for when this would eventually occur… nobody seems particularly shocked and panicked.
I know Obama and Erdogan barely talk… Kerry doesn’t seem too shocked. I’m excited but not surprised. Turkish media has been dropping the word coup around since Erdogan restarted the Kurdish war, and nullified his election defeat… it is why he has been taking over the media.
Guardian is a bunch of retards, if this coup is successful, it is a clean slate for relations with several nations. No Erdogan baggage. Economy likely will kick up in a few months, can’t get much worst than it has under Erdogan.
Maybe The Guardian should start following my threads?
The Rebel 1st Army had troops at the airport earlier, but pulled out as Erdogan supporters flooded it. Infantry wisely pulled back, lots of civilians on tarmac. My gut says they have the control tower, and armored vehicles on the airfield, but no soldiers (no real point honestly).
I’ve seen reports after this, Erdogan is seeking Asylum in Germany.
Dammit, I don’t see any evidence these rebels have heavy infantry or tanks. Only thing I saw was a mention of tanks outside Parliament.
The media still in Erdogan’s hands is claiming the Turkish Air Force has been hitting Rebel Army Helicopters, and that the helicopters bombed Parliament… but that makes no sense if they had tanks on the ground at Parliament…
A lot if disinformation. Most news says the air force is on the Rebel side.
These rebels are going to have some serious mobility issues if they are traveling around in buses and half-trucks.
The game plan looks horrible on the revel side, wish they put just a tenth of the effort in removing the tyrant directly than they had put into sending troops around like this.
Didn’t occur to anyone to knock out senior officials either.
This is terrible, it is only going to get worst now in Turkey. Its like the plot against Hitler, except they didn’t even try to take Erdogan out directly. Very dissapointed.
They had just about a battalion worth of men… my old base in Alaska had three times the troops… we could take over Anchorage, but not the west coast…
These numbers are that equivelent of insanity.
Secondly, if the are a pro constitutional force, why did they drive tanks up to Parliament, which they claimed to of supported, and then bombed?
Erdogan had called Parliament to a emergency session too, but doesn’t like it.
He lands in Istanbul after rebels just had the airport… it looks like their strongest defensive position was on the bridges over the straights, those guys seemed absurdly calm in the beginning, very little support, and then mass surrendered…
This is absurd. This isn’t a coup. One of the dumbest in history if it was. Think it was just Erdogan getting rid of dissent.
