I watched the entire first night of the GOP last week and
watched the entire first night of the democrats and I gotta
say, the dems have far and I don’t mean by a little bit, far
better speakers then the GOP has…
Get used to Cory booker, he will be a presidential candidate
if not 2020, for sure 2024… Very good speech…
This was the best I’ve seen Al Franken in years…
he was actually having fun and he was funny…
Sarah Silverman, I must say, am not a fan, but she was
not bad…
Warrens speech and Michelle Obama speech was very good.
and Bernie was outstanding…
All the speakers tonight not only did a good job of attacking
Herr Trumpf, but they made a very good case for Clinton.
Now given we had several extremely good speeches, we
still haven’t even hit Bill Clinton speech and when he is on,
he might be one of the best speakers in the last 50 years…
That is how strong the dems bench is…
I must say, the bar has been set very, very high for Hilary and
I don’t know if she can even match little less exceed the speeches so far…
As far as the party is concerned, it is a very unified party after tonight.
I don’t think more than 7% of Bernies supporters bail after tonight…
and given how Herr Trumpf is a loose cannon in every way, shape and form,
I suspect he will turn off far more than 7% in the next couple of months,
so the net gain will be for Clinton…
All in all, a very successful night for the democrats…
K: I am actually a Bernie supporter, but you know,
I made a reasonable critique of the Dem’s and all I got
in return was insulted… Pretty par for the course…
Donald Trumpf… the man for those who can’t think for themselves…
In his RNC speech, Trump made the following two points:
Big business, elite media and major donors are lining up behind the campaign of my opponent because they know she will keep our rigged system in place. They are throwing money at her because they have total control over everything she does. She is their puppet, and they pull the strings. That is why Hillary Clinton’s message is that things will never change.
And
I am going to turn our bad trade agreements into great trade agreements. America has lost nearly one-third of its manufacturing jobs since 1997, following the enactment of disastrous trade deals supported by Bill and Hillary Clinton. Remember, it was Bill Clinton who signed NAFTA, one of the worst economic deals ever made by our country. Never again. I am going to bring back our jobs to Ohio, and Pennsylvania, and New York, and Michigan and to all of America —and I am not going to let companies move to other countries, firing their employees along the way, without consequence.
How will Bill tonight and Hillary on Thursday address these accusations? If they do at all. Are they true? And, if so, what does that tell us about the nature of our political economy? about the nature of our so-called “two-party system”?
What fascinates me most about Trump is the extent to which he actually does believe this himself. Is he really intent on dismantling crony capitalism in America? Or is his own campaign just one more rendition of Obama’s “change we can believe in” — bullshit political rhetoric that once in power Trump [as with Obama] will just toss out the window of the Oval Office.
Why do you even bother? It’s not like you’re on CNN lying to millions of people. You’re on here, lying to like 6 people, and we all already know you’re lying.
Why do you even bother? It’s not like you’re on Fox News lying to millions of people. You’re on here, lying to like 6 people, and we all already know you’re lying.
But: Lying about what? What in particular?
And how do we go about determining whether it is the lies of Clinton or the lies of Trump that we should be most concerned with?
In other words, is there a way in which to determine this, say, objectively?
K: Being negative and depressed maybe your way through life but it isn’t my
way…I don’t lie for the simple reason, I don’t care enough to lie…
I am old and beyond giving a fuck what anybody thinks…
The party is unified…As much as the democratic party is
unified… I once heard a joke that goes like this…
I don’t belong to an organized political party… I’m a democrat…
We don’t march in goosesteps like the GOP and we are a pretty proud
bunch… So believe what you want, it doesn’t matter to me…
K: well, the GOP lead congress has investigated the Clinton’s repeatedly over
the last 25 years and has never, let me repeat that, has never, found
the Clinton’s together or individually, guilty of any of the so called charges against
them… From whitewater to Bengaziiiiiiiiiiiii, easily 20 plus investigations
and yet, they still haven’t found one single thing the Clintons have done that was
illegal. Now no one is that good to escape without a scratch, 20 plus investigations
unless they are actually, you know, innocent… So given how hard the GOP
has tried to link the Clintons with crimes known and unknown, I would guess
that the truth lies with the Clintons…as for Herr Trumpf, talk to anyone
from NY and they will tell you Trumpf is a liar and a cheat and
will do anything for a buck including selling his mother into slavery.
He admitted at the GOP convention, no one knows how to game the system
like he does… he said it…his lies are the type of “I know how to
unrig the system” when all he wants is to rig the system even more for him…
a liar and a cheat his whole life would suggest all he wants is to lie and cheat some
more… He has lied about his wealth which is supposed to be his strength which
is business leadership… Mark Cuban has suggested Herr Donalds wealth is more likely
in the hundreds of millions and not in the billions and has said the Donald has maybe
170 million ready available cash on hand and everything else is in buildings and/or mortgaged
to the hilt…Herr Trumpf is most likely over 600 hundred million in debt and no real
way to pay it back without selling everything…that is why he won’t release his income
taxes because it shows how in debt he really is and without the wealth he lies about…
independent organizations have concluded Herr Trumpf lies over 50% of the times
he says anything… Politico for example…don’t ask for examples because I cannot
post the results or links here because I am technically inept and unable to…
From the no real surprise list of things, that kid group that
performed for Herr Trumpf, the USA kids or something like that,
from Fla, they are suing Herr Trumpf because, surprise, surprise,
surprise, he stiffed them for 2,500 bucks… why am I not surprised?
Upon further research, its called the USA freedom group…Sure, why not…
On top of everything else, The Donald’s promises like they say ‘ain’t wort shit’. For example, the Hoover Inst, analyzed the pledged to bring back manufacturing jobs, penalize corporations operating overseas facilities, abrogate Nafta, NATO…
The conclusion? It would bankrupt America, while The Donald sold them short. For instance it would cost perhaps as much as twenty trillion to bring back those jobs. Here is where rhetoric, literally trumps common sense, into which the gop buys into, cause, they are far too depressed not to worry about their own pay checks. This is the said story the, candy wrapped so as to elicit popular vote.
Ok, watched the second night, worked so I Tivo it, and watched every
minute… Why the hell was Barbra boxer there? She is my senator
and man, is she a shitty speaker…I will be glad when she finally retires…
the actors all gave pretty good speeches… Lena Durham and Liz banks and
Streep and the Latino chick from whatever show that was, all of them were good.
The moms of killed people was a little weak but hay, but not every swing hits a
home run…
and we reach Bill… He is still one of the best speakers in the last
50 years… he did something that is hard to do, he humanized Hillary…
she was no longer, as he called it, a carton. she became a real person.
It was also clear, he still loves her. He believes in “till death do you part”.
He is also a master storyteller… He missed his calling in being a storyteller…
I wish he wrote novels or short stories or something like that because I think
he would be great at it because his method is just tell the story and he did…
This idea is often missed by writers and thinkers… Just tell the story…
It doesn’t need to apply to fiction, it can be a story based on reality, on truth,
based on philosophy because philosophy is just a story of how people come to
the truth…Just as religion is just a story… The bible is false as a document of
god, but it is a great story and should be treated as such…read it for the stories
as I have done…History should be just a story told about what happened to people
and people won’t be so bored by it… History is the story of us and how we became
us…We often forget the story about who we are and where we were and where
we will be… Tell the story of Herr Trumpf and it is not an uplifting story,
but tell the story of how Hillary became HILLARY CLINTON… is an interesting
story… Tell the story of any of us and it becomes sociology and it becomes
biology and it becomes economics and it becomes philosophy… We are all of
these and in school, we teach the story of us…
OK, watched the convention last night until 3:00 in the morning
(Tivo it because I worked until 10:00 last night)
I wasn’t impressed by Panetta speech last night
I was impressed by just about everybody else…
I didn’t realize Gabby Gifferds was as hurt as she was…
I didn’t really like the body language of Kaine, the VP choice…
he kept doing weird shaking his own hands thing last night
the speech itself was actually not bad, just didn’t like
body language…
I really like Bloomberg speech, he tore the “Donald” a new one
and even called him insane and incompetent. Now Michael Bloomberg
is a real billionaire, worth roughly 50 billion dollars doing the same NY
real estate thing as Herr Trumpf… and he was Mayor of NY for 12 years.
Bloomberg has been a democrat, a republican and is now an independent
who has been touted at times as a presidential candidate and gave some
serious thought about running as an independent this time but didn’t because
he fear it would lead to a Trumpf presidency…Anyway, Bloomberg ripped
Herr Trumpf on his so called business skills, ripped Trumpf on his safety
and security of Americans skills, basically Ripped Herr Trumpf on every level
possible…
Biden also ripped Trumpf but on a more personal level…
and it was one of Biden better speeches… it was Biden swan
song and he knew it and the audience knew it and Biden
just threw himself into it and it showed…
and we reach Obama… He just tells stories like Bill Clinton does
and does it just as well… He wove a great story last night and
a very strong speech with great emotion and feeling…
Come to think about it, the whole night was not a
typical democrat night, normally democrats play more to
the intellect and tonight they played to the emotions much more.
It was an very inspired choice and everyone did a good job with it…
After watching the GOP party last week and the DEM’S this week,
a couple of comments. First the DEM’S have been and by a lot,
far more optimistic and far, and I mean far more patriotic
and have a far more upbeat message, which was unlike the GOP
last week and the DEM’S message was simple, America is already great…
the military is great and the best military in the world…
The GOP painted a dark and despairing message of an America that
was failing and had failed and had race riots and crime on every street corner
and if you look out your window, was on fire with no one to stop the
fires…
The DEM’S message was upbeat and positive with far better speeches
and speakers (unless you consider the duck hunter guy as a great speaker)
Hillary has a very tough path to follow given the great speeches we have
heard over the last 3 nights… The bar has been set very high…
she hasn’t impressed me much with her speeches and so I hope she
ups her game because it won’t look good if her speech is only
the 5 or 6th best speech of the convention…
K: the Democrats for being democrats are pretty unified. Sure we have malcontents,
but hay, that is what we do. I have no idea if her speech will be amazing and is
everything perfect? I don’t think so. If I thought it was perfect, I would be a republican.
We always think the world can be made better, no matter how good things are right
now, it can be made to be better. If you want a one line description of a democrat
or a liberal, that is it, we think it can be better. Is the world the colossal clusterfuck
that Herr Trumpf thinks it is? No, we think the world is pretty good, however we can
make it better…
People always accuse liberals of being in love with utopia’s and the truth is,
we think the world is pretty good, but we can make it better with love and concern
and respect for people…but we have no interest in utopia’s. Utopia is a very
boring place, kinda like heaven. I would refuse heaven on the grounds of being
a boring and dull kinda of place.
Ok, done with the night…
The main event was ok, Hillary is just not on the
same ground as bill and Obama and even biden,
but she did what she needed to do which is
present a case for herself and a case against Herr Trumpf…
She did both pretty well but I really want to talk about
the other speakers who did much, much better.
In a particular order,
Mr. Khan… I think it was the speech of the convention and
one of the most potent speeches I have ever seen…
It was a short speech but very, very powerful and
emotional… It will resonant to the election and if justice
is due, well beyond… That speech should be an ad against Trumpf…
That is how powerful that speech was…
That preacher from the south William something the second, head of the
NCAAP in one of the Carolina’s, he did a great job…He knows how
to grab and hold an audience…
I think the powerful speeches have one thing in common which is
they are from a place inside of strength and courage…a great speech
must have a center from which it emanates…the reverend spoke from
his spiritual side and that was his strength, Mr. Khan spoke from his center
which right now, is pain, in time perhaps, perhaps the pain lessens and
he wouldn’t be able to give such a powerful speech…
the speeches that matter come from a place deep inside that is
our lodestar place. If we are lucky, our words match our emotions in
the moment and the center place we have. The power of words come from
that center place deep within us… It comes from… god, I am so
badly explaining this… We have to reach the place we exist in to make
a great speech…the moments that matter are moments that
reach this deep place where our center is and where our bedrock is.
We build our foundation upon this bedrock place where we get our strength
and our values and our moments that mark our lives…this center place, this
foundational place is who we are, everything else is window dressing…
This central place for me is in reading and studying and thinking, my
place is an intellectual place…in this place is the power of our lives…
Hillary didn’t make the case for Hillary, these fine and wonderful speeches
made the case for Hillary and against Trumpf… because making speeches
are not what Hillary is about, she is a policy wonk, a self admitted policy wonk
as is Bill but he can make great speeches but few if any policy wonks can make
a great speech…
