Kriswest, the model I have been talking about is the model used within the education system.
OK, I might be slow then. Are we disagreeing? ??? Its been a long week.
My apologies.
We are not agreeing as such Kriswest.
All I am saying is that a wholistic approach is required and service providers need to have a coordinated approach.
Should parenting be included within the public education system?
It already is where I live but I am not sure about where you live.
The education system here teaches students values, personal hygiene, social justice, dental health, bike safety, road safety, sexual health and sexual safety, drug and alcohol awareness and harm minimisation, mental health and well-being, simulated parenting with take home computerized baby dolls which have data loggers in them, cooking, appropriate food choice and healthy eating habits, how to respond to abuse (sexual and physical), identifying and regulating feelings, providing breakfast to students who live in poverty, and so on and on and on.
The education system already teaches students about parenting and has for a long time - a person cannot manage the health and wellbeing of another human being if they cannot manage the health and wellbeing of themselves (this is a fundamental component of humanity and is called vicarious neglect/trauma).
And so, it does not need to occur more within the education system as a formalised subject or learning area … the broader community need to start pulling their weight. The education system is well and truly overloaded and at capacity - have you considered volunteering or fundraising for schools?
The schools around here touch on some of those subjects but, not much.
Yea, We donate on top of our taxes. Cant volunteer though the schools are too far and my work day is a split shift.
The community will not step up until educated to do so. A comunity must be taught to see itself as a whole. This does not occur enough.
