What is your image of the ideal society?

I look at Katrina as a future exercise of evolutionism.

Magnet Man,

There is no universal standard or absolute in connotation to your definition of common sense.

Up is up
Down is down
Black is black
and white is white
You’re always wrong
I’m always right. :unamused:

I was never a fan of poetry.

Listen to me! You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you. He never wanted you. In all probability, he hates you. This is not the worst thing that can happen. :evilfun:

Tell me somthing I don’t know already.

You are obviously a smart guy.
On analysis I would say tyat you are a whole lot more intellectually gifted than I. =D>
I, of course, have more common sense. :sunglasses:
So how about a truce and collaboration on a project that I have in mind?

It is overrated.

Depends on the collaboration.

Its about the meaning and purpose of human evolution. I am reviewing Prof. Teilhard De Chardin’s book “The Phenomenon of Man” He believes we will evolve into a super-cosnciosuness eventually. I came to the same conclusion independently. I want to find out how he arrived there and explain why I think he is right. How about getting a copy yourself and telling us all where he might be wrong?

Mine would be like the naruto world, we have technology but dont completely rely on it, and we have the ability to use chakra. Best of all, no guns.

We use our chakras all the time. Everytime we have sex, or take on fear, feel a pang of love, have a vision, or come up with an original idea.

I’m interested to see how my ideal merges with others.

Kriswest, I’ve often felt that we are so ridiculous. Repulsive, even, that we couldn’t just live out our existence like these cultures do. Surely, they don’t live in bliss. They suffer, and they do cruel things to eachother too. But what’s wrong with what they do? And what did we gain so much better?

In the grand scheme of things, nothing. Leave them be. But if everyone had to live that way, it’s a problem of course. For one, I feel we share a responsability (sorry nihilists) to our future by gaining maximum technology to manipulate our universe. And also, we would have to watch those primitive societies at a distance. Will one of them discover how to build nuclear weapons and threaten the fabric of this society? In the short ideal I lay out, this kind of life is certainly an option. Just a matter of what country will want it.

Many others for me to talk to when I get the chance.

Oh sorry, i meant how they use it.

Some how I see tech luxeries being the downfall of mainstream societies. Luxeries weaken the body and the mind. Imagine a city like New York without electricity for just one month. One lousy little month. Now lets put that month either in the hottest part of the year or the coldest. Death would be all over NY. Sanity would be the next victim. Criminal behavior would be on the rise with in a day and would escalate from there.

Also remember it takes power to pump water and seweage. That alone will cause deaths.

Now do the same to some little town in the middle of the country. A town of a couple of thousand. Sure there might be a death or two. The elderly or the very ill. But the reaction to such a calamity would be totally different. People would pull together a bit more. In a small town it is likely there will be several wells which can be easily converted to hand pump.
If there are no wells , it is more likely that the people will work together to dig wells and dispose human waste in a sanitary way

Now lets take an Amish community, The USAs own version of primative modern. Would it affect them at all? Very little, it would be a tiny burp.
Their community is not dependent upon luxeries of electrical nature.
Power for water pumping would be the main problem unless they have wells Which they probably do.

The major cities would die. Along with vast numbers of humans Just because of the lack of Power. This one luxury is deadly in its absence.

Air conditioning, heating, water, sewage, medical quipment, food storage, Gads the problems that will arise.

But it need not be that way. If people work together and trust each other for survival. This is one thing that primitives do. It is neccesary. It is a bond that keeps them going and a strong bond too. I would say that is one main reason that primitives stay together.

Take a primitive tribe and put them smack in the middle of a city. Give them luxuries. Some would of course stay in the city, but I would bet dollars to doughnuts that most would flee the city in short order. Regather and try to reestablish their community.

Being a primitive is difficult living but, it breeds something we have forgotten. Which for the survival of humanity it needs to be remembered.

Its not that we have to be primitive we just have to be of that nature of that trust, need and cohesion. That particular bond that we modern humans have forgotten. The lack of it will kill many humans.

Quite right. Mostly we activate our chakras only semi-consciously. We are never fully sure of our inner needs or why we want them fulfilled,. Thus our lives and the sensations produced by our physical appetites are only dimly experienced at the mundane level. When psychic energy is activated imaginatively - ie with a profound sense of spiritual reverence, then sex, food, health, joy, love. courage, visions and intellectual insights are all experienced at increasingly higher levels of consciousness. Some yogis and saints go into ecstatic states and swoon with bliss. I have heard practioners of the Kama Sutra tell me that they have multiple orgasms - up to hundred at a time  :-({|=

Kris,

Wishful thing, my dear. A few of the elders would leave, but the majority would suck up all the the conveniences and technological toys and declare themselves in heaven. To be sure, there would be the wringing of hands over what they had lost, but the dazzle would blind most of them - permanently.

You’ve been reading Wordsworth again, haven’t you? The pastoralists wanted to return to a simpler time, but it wasn’t going to happen. It isn’t going to happen now, either.

What we are engaged in this very moment is proof that we aren’t going to live in any simplicity if we can help it. You and I were raised in similar ways in a similar environment, and we could manage quite nicely without all the technological trappings of modernity, but we won’t. We aren’t about to pull the plug on our computer - or any of the other toys we so desperately “need”. This bus has no reverse gear, so we have to go forward as best we can.

One reason that won’t happen is because you overlook the premise of individuality.

It also sounds like a ridiculous imaginative sci-fi future.

It is going to happen. If not by man’s hand than most likely by some world catastrophic event.

Joker,

As population increases, and resources are diminished, there will be many drastic changes. Whatever happens will be by man’s hand. Our willingness to muck about with processes we don’t understand is obvious. We are the captains (or victims) of our own choosing. Whether such changes are catastrophic or not isn’t to be known except as after-the-fact. Returning to a pastoral life style sounds good, or at least very romantic. But ultimately, it simply buys a little time. Either solve the issue of a controlled population limit, or duck and cover…

LOL Pastoral will never be a part of the man beast’s future. but things like

cooperation can be and that was my point about primitives.

The young maybe dazzled but I think they would end up frustrated, dead or in prison if they remain. The world of cities is not their world. The behavior of the city humans would be incomprehensable to them. They may want the trappings but, the behavior that comes along with it would be overwhelming. People in cities are almost a breed apart and seperate from primitives. Like a Chihuahua and a shepard or a shark and a trout.

Cities are dead end prisons. They don’t look like it but, they are.

When catastophes hit it will be those that have little luxuries that survive.
Look, what we are doing? In the modern world people sterilize things. Anti biotic this that and the other thing. Bloody hell! that is suicide. This time of year the average joe relies on airconditioned comfort, running water, flushing toilets, cold food, or hot food. The human body weakens. Mindless work and entertainment weakens the mind so that when push comes to shove humans could not think themselves out of a wet paper bag. Such is the luxeries of the cities.

People lock themselves in tiny cubicles and call it home, they have 6 locks on the door to keep safe. 800 people may live in one building. How many actually know each other? How many actually trust each other? The death of the cities will not be pretty and it will be because humans have fogotten what primitives still know.

Primitives may want the trappings but, will they fall pey to the serenade of it? They are people too. A middle ground should be found. and can be, but frankly I hold no hope for the humans in the cities. The more primitive one is, the more likely they will be the heirs to this world.
Pastoral Primative LOL good one Tent. Where the heck do any of those exist?
