Emotions are slow, because they come from haphazard, nonrationaly connected places. The subconscious. The information is vital. But tis slow.
OK, if thatās poetry, Iāll include some of my own: youāre wrong.
Someone says Trump sucks
or
Your daughter is a whore
Set the timer first for the emotional response, then for the reasoned response.
You can also try this in relation to less obviously triggering assertions or arguments.
The economy has improved since Trump took office.
Your daughter is wise for her age.
And thereās a reason for this. One the process is simpler with emotions. You donāt have to engage the complicated frontal lobes. You donāt have to check, as you are going, if the response is sound. You donāt need to organize it in a good sequence. Another reason is that we donāt want to - as in the example I gave that you ignore - reason in situations where a very fast reaction may be necessary.
If you donāt believe me, take a look at current cognitive theory around the speed of emotions vs. reasoning.
And again: this is not criticism of reasoning. And itās not an argument that we do fine without reasoning or that emotions are better because they are faster.
Integration.
Subconscious: parallel processing
Conscious reasoning: linear/serial processing.
Another thing about emotions: they are receptive.
Think of little children. They are very clear, and driven. That drive will lead them in self destructive circles. Administered for, listened to, that same clearly communicated energy can be the basis of the greatest satisfaction: a child in its motherās arms, etc.
Emotions are much the same. Ignoring them is like neglecting children. Letting them call shots is the definition of insanity.
There are also the silent children, one of which I was.
Akin to enlightenment: the emotions can be come still, almost non existant, giving only barest of nudges, because reason is already superior in gathering the information.
If this is not what man is striving for, then I commend him to the zoo.
No you have it backwards emotions are fast in fact they are instant logic is slow and takes time the reason why that is is because emotions help us in survival situations more than logic does.
You think that, because you think with your emotions.
Itās amazing then that current cognitive science agrees completely with what @The_Emotion said there.
Is that so.
It seems like no matter how many times I say it, you see me as saying emotions on top calling the shots. You reaction continues the same false dilemma, regardless.
How odd that you finished on this image. Itās you who see them as animals or children to be put behind bars. To be controlled. To be jailer and jailed. To have them free is madness and the loss of reason. Well, weāve certainly been told that for a long time. The fear in that habit that never gets to express and learn and be integrated along with the rest.
Is that what I said.
Yup. Do some research on your own. Find out which goes faster emotions or reasoning. You never respond to learning via your own reactions, the little tests I suggest. The ironic thing here is you are thinking with your unexpressed, unintegrated fear of emotions, a fear that is listening to whatever cultural/parental voices that told you emotions are what you think they are.
So, you donāt listen to us. You donāt respond to points made. You find new words to present your position, but not new arguments to support it.
So, weāre dealing with a repeated assertion.
There is no point in my continuing. Either youāll do some introspection on which actually moves faster - I mean, my God, he talked about survival situations - or do a bit of research in current neuro/cognitive science or youāll do neither.
Ah, yes, thank you.
If you will forgive, I doubt that he, or you, have lived one.
It is the kind of situation that rather quickly teaches the importance of mastery over emotions.
It also teaches you what methods of information collection are the fastest.
Thatās probably why drugs give visionary experiences. They simulate a survival situation, they put the body into catastrophe mode.
Nothing shaves away the bullshit like knowing a false move will be your last.
ā¦this is such bull**** given the surrounding context, and everyone who has done drugs knows it.
Whatās the surrounding context?
Catastrophe mode of the body during survival situations.
Giving birth on drugs=good.
Giving birth naturally=not so much.
Giving birth on drugs if it wasnāt under the care of highly trained experts with state of the art facilities would not be good at all. Well, Iām sure there were gradations with midwives and country painkillers etc.
But my point is: I can usually keep track of what you mean, but I am ashamed to admit that, this time, I donāt get it at all.
ĀæCuz male? There, there.
