Well, Turtle, the solution is simple. Avoid those threads. If they are arguing why watch or interfere? Its not like they are in an apartment next to you banging and making loud noises. There are plenty of threads to view and interact in that do not have such arguments.

Well, that is a very telling answer. Those that are arguing their differences do not see that they have a problem, in fact both sides are probably enjoying the fight. You see a problem when those involved do not.

Jesus suffered the indignities of being called king of the Jews, of wearing a crown of thorns simply because he believed he was a son of god.

My prayers get answers, maybe not always the answers I expected. That I continue to exist despite abuse to my body comes across to me that my existence is somehow necessary. For me god is as personal as hands and feet, a presence I can rely on when all others cannot help in time of need. If this is illusory or dependent on paranormal experiences, I accept that. For me, it is what works, given my individual psyche, that matters. God is real for me.

I have problems only with the atheists who insist that what’s right for me cannot be right. Atheism, like Christianity is a personal belief. If it works, personally, so be it.

You opened this thread with "atheists+theists are wrong. Whether I agree with you or not (and who can judge rightly without further examination of what they’re right and/or wrong about), right there you make the assumption that they ARE wrong - without any qualification.
How can you say this? How can you know this? Okay, so I can pretty much realize that you were not being arrogant here at the time you typed that - but to an atheist and a theist, THAT could come across as being arrogant - not to the point of your being seen as being angry and having so much hubris but in what way does that open up a friendly discussion/argument (not the fighting kind of argument).
You might have asked the question: Can the atheist and the theist be wrong in his/her perspectives and opinions? Can I be wrong? It’s a good thing to give the benefit of the doubt - on both sides of the coin and to also look to the edge of that coin. lol
But I might be wrong here. Basically, it was the title of the thread - makes for the discussion either being closed or starting with hubris and anger. Also, wouldn’t it be a good thing for you to give your thoughts on what a god is rather than always asking. I don’t know about others, but mutual reciprocation and feedback are so important to me. I guess it’s just a flaw a weakness in me.
I just want to take this discussion to a higher level…but no one is going there…you can say the title is bad…you can blame all kinds of things but people do not want to go to new ground…how are your squirrels

But turtle, this is only MY perspective but where IS the new ground? I don’t mean to offend here only to challenge and perhaps that in itself is a bit of hubris in me? I don’t know either way. But look around - there have been so many threads of this kind - about the god concept. All I’m saying is that maybe it would be a good idea to start with a fresh new concept, insofar as the god discussion goes. I realize that it is difficult to come up with fresh new ground, ideas, fresh running water so to speak but You turtle are a scientist I think.
Come from a scientific point of view though perhaps that has also been done multitudinous times.
Can there be a way in which posters can discuss god in a fresh new light? I don’t know.
Draw people in by saying more, by saying something different, giving more from a different perspective. That might whet their appetites for more.
Or you can just completely ignore me. Maybe what I’m saying here is all wrong or more wrong than I think.
Sometimes these conversations about god are like drinking flat soda but I don’t know how to make them more stimulating.
But what we do need is a more stimulation conversation about the god thingy.
I’m an agnostic so I can certainly deal with.
The only thing that i can say here is that I really have no idea if there is or isn’t Something which we call god which is a reality.
I wonder why the god word? Do you know that god spelled backwards is dog? Dogs are wonderful.
