Where do you get your news?

I would like to ask your opinion, @Flannel_Jesus.

For me, certain topics on the board have a “flavour”, for example this one:

It has mostly turned into opinionated banter (sometimes perhaps irrelevant or silly) about current events, but I personally think it is quite important as it represents a record of what is happening, both in the markets and geopolitically. Of course we’re not experts, but hey, sometimes the only way to learn is to dive into the water and try to swim.

Then there’s this thread, where I had the honest intention of discovering new sources of news relating to current events, but I got a bit frustrated and started posting a flood of links to songs, I figured at least there might be something someone liked. Now I’m using it to post links to sources of information that I found relevant, but little personal commentary is provided, do you think there should be more commentary?

Then there’s this thread:

I got into a discussion with @Peter_Kropotkin, which I enjoyed, but then I posted a link to an irrelevant video, and he pointed out that he didn’t think it belonged there. I thought, you know, you’re right, so I removed the video and also an image that I had posted in response to @Ichthus77, as I started to wonder whether that was also irrelevant too. I can see why too much media without commentary is counterproductive.

So I guess my question is, do you think that it’s acceptable for some threads to contain a lot of linked media, where perhaps others should not? My plan for the future is to try to avoid linking to media in threads that are discussion heavy, but then post links in threads where that’s more the “flavour” of things.

What do you think?
